DH just bought a kilo of it and Ive never cooked it!
What do you add to it so that it tastes nice. All Ive heard of is brown sugar and vinegar. This is something id love to master as my MIL does a fantastic one with a nice mustard dressing.
Any ideas would be great

I usually put in vinegar (white) with some salt and pepper and mustard powder i left mine cook till it falls apart i add cloves as well. Never done it with brown sugar but my mum does and hers is always nice
I make a yummy mustard sauce and cook it with some mashed spuds and carrots and peas. It makes the best meat pattes in left overs too !
I use the cookery the australian way method (my family forebearers lmao swear by it)
Just cover the meat with water. Add 1 Tblsp of brown sugar, and 4 Tblsp on white vinegar. bring to boil, and then simmer until meat is tender and pink!
OMG I love corned beef!
ETA: Oh, and 1/2 hr before it's cooked, add quarted onion and carrots! (I so want corned beef now!)

Chunk of meat and some water in the bottom half way up, 200ml Brown malt vinager, 1 onion, 12-13 cloves, 2tbsp brown sugar, 2 bayleaves...

I use a bit of golden syrup and then some vinegar (not a lot, a good "splash" though) and then cover over with water. :)
I love corned beef so much... :D
In a pot with water, vinegar, sugar and peppercorns. Boil for about an hour a kilo (approx).
Quarter a cabbage and cook in the water with corned beef.
I usually serve with mashed potatoes, peas, carrots.
Serve with a thick white sauce with lots of parsley.
Classic comfort food.

I put mine in a slow cooker with Brown Viniger Brown sugar, a sprinkle of thyme and cloves Its fantastic, it simmers all day and the flavour soaks into it, and I also add potato's in the slow cooker as well the potatos come out with that fantastic taste as well, if you dont have a slow cooker you can do the same in a pot...

I lived in a share house where on eof the guys would cook corned beef in coke.
Seriously, it's not as gross as it sounds.
I like it with ginger ale / ginger beer over it and cooked for at least 4 hrs. Also you can chuck in a bouquet garni bag.
I have also tasted it done with orange juice & mustard. Not bad if you are a fan of marmalade.
Yummo!!!

When i boil my cornbeef i throw in a whole onion, chopped carrot,pepper,1 teaspoon of cinnamon(awsome ingredient) few shakes of celery salt or you can chop up a celery stick, two tablespoons of brown sugar and a good dollop of vinegar.
The secret ingredient is the cinnamon and people always just cant put their finger on what that awsome taste is in your cornbeef.
I prob let slightly boil for round 2.5-3hrs turning a few times.
served with white sauce and parsley and steamed vegies. YUMMMO and sooo tender.:yelclap:

I did it last week I made my first corned beef and it turned out great! I did the 1 Tbspn brown sugar to 4 Tbspns vinegar and bayleaves method and I couldnt fault it tasted awesome!
Only thing I would never do is reheat it in the microwave without cling wrap as that really dries the meat out. DH loved the leftovers in his sandwhich the following day! Ill definately be making it again. Thanks again ladies I can now cross that off my list as a recipe Ive mastered :)

Boil in water with a chopped onion, brown sugar, vinegar and some hot mustard....PERFECT!
Now I am hungry!
the slow cooker do you cover it with water as i have one in there now and hoping this is how its done!!
That's all you have to do!
The slow cooker produces beautiful tender corned beef that almost falls apart!

Yay, good work!!! Its the most simplest way, makes it oh so divine!! I don't think corned beef needs too many flavours, ie, cinnamon, honey, celery??? It's just too good simply boiled with a bay leaf :)
