someone told me you can freeze sandwiches and they still taste ok when defrosted... anyone know what type of fillings would be good to freeze?

im gonna test it out just with simple fillings like peanut butter...

can you freeze cheese? my daughter loves cheese sandwiches, would be great to make a weeks worth and put it in the freezer :)

Just at my auntys house and she says that you can, cheese works well as long as you don't put anything fresh eg, lettuce, tomato. I'll have to remeber this when DS is older.

I do this - usually vegemite and cheese or peanut butter. They freeze really well.
Just put them in ziploc bags, and then you can just chuck them in their backpack on the way out the door :smiliedance:

only freeze spreads and cheese

never freeze egg, meat, tuna etc

We freeze spread sandwiches - vegimite, jam etc, and freeze "butter" sandwiches and take fillings with us - meat etc

We make our kids school lunches on Sunday for the week and freeze them, the only things we have found you can't freeze are lettuce and tomato (for soggy reasons), but we do make

ham
devon
strass with and without cheese, they all freeze and thaw fine,

Just keep your bread frozen and make the sandwich with frozen bread. It thaws by the time you want to eat it and keeps the bread fresher. Use this method for the things you can't freeze beforehand like tomato or meat.

You need to wrap the sandwiches really well to prevent freezer burn if you're pre-making them. Use ziploc bags as cling wrap tends to stop 'clinging' when you freeze it.

I freeze everything and anything on sammies except for salad veges that have a high water content.

Ive found that using a good quality bread like Helgas makes all the difference.

I do egg, deli meats (ham, silverside etc), cheese/vegemite, spreads, carrot and cheese, tuna and mayo and whatever else I have at the time.

I know it was mentioned not to freeze some of those - but I do it without any problem.

I wrap each one tightly in gladwrap and throw in the freezer.. I only ever make a weeks worth, no more than that.

My hubby used to make himself a weeks worth of sandwiches on a Sunday night - boring fillings but it saved time in the morning - froze ok, well he never complained!

I put tuna, mayo and diced tomato in a bowl and make up the sammies then freeze them. (tomato is fine like that just not by itself)

(btw my daughters name is amber too :D)

Man, where would I be without frozen sambo's??? Late(r) for school every day, that's where!!!

Love 'Sweet Williams' choc spread (nut free), Free Nut Butter, cream cheese (not Kraft for ethical reasons), Nimbin cheese, jam, honey, brekkie mite (damn Kraft for being so evil they even took Vegemite away from me!!!!!!), soy sausages.

On hot days, the sambo's are still good by lunchtime if they are taken out just before you pop the kiddies off to school!

I always hated hot, soggy, substandard sandwiches when I was at school.

My Nana used to freeze all our sambos for school when we were kids. She even used tomato successfully - she would remove the seeds by cutting of the top and sticking the knife in and cut/twist out all the seeds from each segment. The seeds are the watery bit that make em go soggy!

I make a really yummy chicken filling and then freeze a whole loaf of bread in individual pieces and I've got a week and a half worth!

For the chicken I mix blended cooked chicken, mayo, pistacho nuts, celery and spring onion. Yuuuum nothing compares and it forms a nice paste that freezes fantastically!
