Hi there

We have chosen the following names for our first bubba and I just wanted to get some feedback on what people thought? These are not nicknames, they would be the real names with no middle name.

Boy - Tex
Our last name is Walker, so he would be Tex Walker (like the Chuck Norris tv show, if anyone remembers). Hubby's nickname is 'Walker Texas Ranger'

Girl - Kiki
(originally chose Anabelle but Bella is so common at the moment and we like uncommon names - my name is Peta, his Rowan)

The MIL and SIL are not so keen on the name but my ma & pa love them.

Thank you!

Well Tex Walker.... I prolly wouldn't do it. Kiki  it's ok....

But it is YOUR choice so go with what you like. :)

Tex, reminds me of Tex Perkins (singer of Beasts of Bourbon) and Kiki reminds me of Kiki Dee (duet with Elton John 'don't go breaking my heart' in the 70s I think).

Kiki sound like a little kids name, may not suit her as an adult and Tex just seems a little odd for me, but it could grow on me.

I agree, unusual names are great, but its your child and your decision!! Good luck.

Personally I don't think I could do the Tex Walker thing.
I have a friend who called her little girl Keely but everyone knows her as Kiki :)
Names are such an individual thing, if you and you DH agree thats all that matters. Good Luck :D

I don't really like the whole Tex Walker as a name! If your surname wasn't Walker I might have thought it was okay!

As for the name Kiki she sounds like she should be doing the can can at the Moulin Rouge! Sorry!

The thing is when you name your child and introduce him or her to people, it will just BE their name and will suit their personality and everyone will grow to associate the name with the person. That's why it's so hard to comment on names that are just 'on paper' before a little person is attached to them.

If you and your DH agree, then they are perfect.

TEX: you've stolen my favourite name!!! LOL I so badly want to call my son Tex (actually I'd go for Texas, but call him Tex) but my DH just looks at me and shakes his head..... Plus his brother just married "an American lass" (as my MIL constantly refers to her ) and she's from Texas. So that would be a bit weird for me to call my son after the state she grew up in.
But me personally I LOVE IT!! You go for it, I think it's a fabulous name, very strong, very individual. And kids of his generation won't get the "Walker, Texas Ranger" connection.

KIKI: I like that too! I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to girls names, so personally I wouldn't use it - but if it sits well with your last name, and if she comes out looking like a Kiki then GO FOR IT :D She could always shorten it to "Ki" later on if she wanted to. There's a lot more weirder names in the world than Kiki, she will definately not have the weirdest name in her class at school.

Good luck with your decision!! My advice would be, pick a bunch of names that you both like, then when bubs is born, see which name in particular suits him/her!

Ummm Tex (according to my daughter) sounds like something from Star Wars, and Kiki, gotta agree with some others, sounds like a strippers name :S

Sorry...no offense intended...And TEX is so American...ewwwww LOL

Thanks for the feedback

ooo, had never thought of the stripper connection before..... Someone did say it sounded a little like "Kinky" though. I'm pretty certain it's a boy. (gut feel) so hopefully I won't have to worry about that one.

BTW - we can't agree on more than one name - hence why it's down to 1 of each (and we have been discussing it for nearly 5 years!) can anyone else?
