Hi, my 6 month old has just started rolling in his cot and i dont know what the best thing to do is. For the past week he has been up literally all night every night, because he doesnt want to be wrapped anymore and rolls and rolls and starts screaming hysterically cause he cant roll back over so i dont know how to get him to sleep again. Ive been picking him up and rocking him or feeding him to sleep, which he doesnt stay asleep for too long and it starts all over again. Do i start usin a sleep bag? I dont know what to do, he gets so hysterical that the sheets get all wet from his drool and tears . I thought maybe i should just let him go but he gets so worked up that i have to go and roll him over and he flips back over again. Help i need to nip this in the bud, im also still breastfeeding him O/n which i want to stop as he's 6 months now big boy and doesnt need the extra feeds so any advice on what to do would be soooo appreciated thanks in advance:)

I never really had this- my little girl wasn't a real wrapped bub to start with but maybe you could start only wrappin his bottom half and then tucking him firmly into the bed- extra sheet over bub then under the matress???

Or if he isn't rolling really well you could try a rolled up towel in a pillow case and the under bub, the another rolled up towel on other side of bub IYKWIM

Sort of like

.
II () II
II /\ II

If that makes any sense- II= the towel!

I hope that helps somewhat

hi chloe,

this story is me all over with my son, he started doing it at 4 months he is now 6 months old, i have brought and tried all diffent contractions. I have tried the safe T sleep strap, that works ok but my son zane found it to constricting. It goes around there bellys, a velcro strap, also tried the wedges which he rolls straight over and wiggles out of being wrapped..... monkey

I was going nuts getting up all through the night like you. I have just brought him 2 weeks ago a grobag, www.grobag.com.au and it is the best thing i have ever done. He finds it harder to roll. He still rolls but does not move up and down the cot and get caught in the bars. i wish i got the sleeping bag earlier. I find it settles him too, i am still gettin up maybe once per night to give him his dummy and put him back onto his side but as each night gos on its getting better. he does not wake up distreseed anymore.
i use to have to feed him back to sleep but he settles great in it, actually puts himself to sleep at night and after hims early morning feed.

i hope i have been to some help, but i know how you feel i suffered for nealry 3 months and i have to say the sleeping bag is the go. i was also finding that he was cold as he moved out of his blankets and get beached on him tummy.

cheers,
amy with baby zane!!! good luck

Wow, I have been having the same problem with my 4 month old. You are never alone!!! I hesitated about buying a grobag as they are so expensive, but I'm off to the shop now to buy one. I'll let you know how it goes.

excellent, let me know how the grobag thing goes, im still quite unsure. Are they able to roll on their tummies while in the grobag? Im so exhausted for having to keep going in to turn him over .

My 4 1/2 old bub is doing exactly the same thing. It's so frustrating as she'd just started to self settle really well, but now the moment I put her on her back it's instant flip and then crying cause she won't sleep on her tummy. When do they learn to flip themselves back???? I've had to resort to feeding her to sleep and I'm worried I'm going to create a problem where she can only sleep this way!

Am really interested in hearing how the gro-bag goes. I'm tempted to go get one tomorrow...I was going to for winter anyway as she always kicks the blankets off.

hi girls,

i would invest in a grobag for sure it has help my 7 month old out a great deal. he can still roll onto his tummy but is happy as i think he feel secure in the bag!

he has been rolling since 4 months old and very tiring as we all know. i wish i got the bag earlier. some nights i still have to turn him but settles much better.

have a look on ebay as there is second hand ones! maybe a cheaper option. well worth the money though.

if i can help anymore please let me know. good luck :fingerscrossed:

hi guys, well i bought the grobag yesterday and used it last night, daniel still got up 3 times and i just fed him to sleep easier, i want to get out of this habit, he was struggling to roll over and was screaming out of frustration, so id go and roll him back. Do you do anything with the excess sleeping bag at the bottom? He tangles it all up? Is there anything else i should be doing? He seems to settle during the day, hes sleeping now i put him on the side though.

hey,

i got the sewing machine and ran a stitch along the buttom under the zip, also under the arms abit as zane is quiet small. zane sleeps on his side also but is on his tummy by the time i go to bed. i straighten him up before i go to bed too. also i settle at night with a dummie, eg he was stiring at 12.30 last night as he is teeting, so i put some gel on popped the dummie in and walked out, put himself back to sleep. sometimes he cant find his dummie. i have now cut out his night feeds all together, they say for a 7 month old he should have 720mls minamum in 24 hours, he is doing that and more. i feed between 4-5 times per day with 2 solid feeds.

give it a week and see how you go as zane got better each night, have you tried putting him to bed at night awake after his bed time feed and patting him to sleep. worked wonders for me now goes to sleep on his own each night.

hi Amy, he is having around 6-7 breastfeeds in 24 hours. He is a big boy ,almost 10 kilos so he doesnt need the feed i think i got into a viscious cycle of feeding to settle. I will try and do the patting thing, the thing is i put him down awake in his cot and he falls asleep he just cant seem to resettle unless with the boob, thanks for your advice will try tonight
Stella (my 5 year old is Chloe)

I brought two sleeping bags through www.curlytops.com.au They are great and considerably cheaper than Grobags. I wasn't too worried about designs, just the outcome.

DS would also roll and only get halfway and wakeup. I would go in and flip him over and let him resettle.

Now he can continue rolling but wakes when he reaches the other side of the cot and can't go any further. So I just pick him up and move him back to the farside, but he tends to only wake around 6am now.

The sleeping bag should inhibit the rolling, but where there's a will....
