Hi everyone
I had my first appointment with my midwife today and I asked her if I could hear the heart beat I am 14 weeks today and she could not find it. She didn’t seem concerned at all and said we will try to hear it next time. However I was a mess blubbering all the way home, hubby assures me nothing is wrong I haven’t had any reason to believe otherwise either except for today.
I was certain at 14 weeks she should have been able to locate it. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I feel like demanding an ultrasound just so I can stop worrying? I turned down my 12 week scan because I’m young and healthy and the risk of abnormalities is very low and I would keep the baby anyway but I am wishing I could have one know to make sure baby is still alive and well! Sorry to go on but I am so upset and depressed I couldn’t hear it. Do you think its normal not to hear the heart beat using a Doppler at 14 weeks or not?
Our baby due 20/09/06

Dont worry until next visit. I couldn't hear Connor's for ages either. I wasn't as far along as we thought! If your midwife isn't worried then You probably shouldn't either!! :hugs: It's so hard when all you want is to hear them!!
when i had my check up at 14 weeks the midwife told me not to worry if i didnt hear a heart beat yet as it could be to early, she said usually around 16-18 weeks to first hear it

hey brooke, im 14 weeks to. dont be worried about not hearing the heart beat yet. this bub i heard it at 12 1/2 weeks but my last pregnancy i didnt hearit until 16 weeks as the placenta was right at the front of my stomach. also when i was 9 days overdue with my last dd the midwife couldnt find the heartbeat, i had to tell her it was lower then where she was looking, sometimes there not the most skilled people in the world.

My dr wouldnt look for the heart beat until 16 weeks - she said there wasnt much point cause you most likely wouldnt find it till after this time, and it would only make me worry when she couldnt find it. im 27 weeks now, and they still have trouble finding bubs heartbeat due to my placenta sitting right at the front.
Dont be worried :) Your next check up you should hear that sound that makes you cry (watch out for drs who dance to the beat  my dr does this, it makes my DF laugh like crazy)
Go and get an ultrasound and pay for it if you have to.
Better than worrying about it till the next time.
If your boobs are still sore and you still feel like cr*p then chances are everything is fine but there is nothing more reassuring than seeing it for yourself.

Hi there
I was in exactly the same boat as you...
14 weeks check up and couldnt hear the heartbeat...I was beside myself with worry.
But because we werent sure of dates I had to go for an u/s...and got to see the little one a few days later...Eveything was fine...so dont worry too much (I am not going to say not to worry at all - I know what its like!!)
BTW my sister was told that at her hospy they dont even check the hb until after 18 weeks - just causes undue worry when people cant hear it before then.
I am with Shed tho...if you really want go and have an u/s of your own.
Good Luck Matey:thumbsup:

The first time I heard my ds's heartbeat with a doppler was at 17 weeks after a half an hour of searching :hugs: I'm sure everything is fine!
Not being able to hear a heatbeat is not uncommon. When this happens they usually check for movement too. If you Midwife told you not to worry I would suggest that she probably looked for movement and found it, which means all is well. Try not to stress, but if you are get another u/s for your own peace of mind.
Good luck.

As the others have said try not to stress i know its hard ! :hugs:
If you want peace of mind then get an u/s done otherwise wait for your next appt.
Stay strong again as the others have said 16-18wks is usually the time frame for hearing it :hugs:

I didnt hear both of my bubs heartbeats until around 16wks. Sometimes people are lucky to hear the heartbeat early but the baby has to be in the right position to do that. Try and relax everything you have told us is completely normal! :D

That's good news. Sometimes their heartbeats are hard to pick up when they're so little. Try not to stress if it's hard to locate it sometimes. Sounds like your body is doijg a wonderful job of growing that baby!
