My DS was born in December, and I am on my 3rd period since he was born. Prior to having him, I'd say I was a medium-heavy bleeder but now I'd say more like heavy-very heavy. Is this my body still getting rid of excess stuff (sorry, put it as nicely as I could) or is this the way it will probably stay? Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

I bled for 5-6 weeks after having DS, then the next month i got my regular period back. Before having DS I had a very light period(3-4days) now I get it for 6-7 days and it is so heavy. I think my body has just changed since having a baby.
Sounds normal to me!

I bled for about 2 weeks after having ds1, then got my first perios about 5 days after that! I had one ever 2 weeks for about 6 weeks, then it was 8 weeks, then i got pregnant with ds2!

With ds2, i bled again for about 2 weeks, then got a period when he was nearly 6 weeks, then another 10 weeks after, then i got pregnant again LOL! Both my boys were fully breastfed the whole time.

I think it can take a while for your periods to get back to normal again...if there's a break in the bleeding, i think that you are probably having periods, not still bleeding from the birth.

DD is 8 months now...and I used to just have a regular flow...now it's heavy. I don't even bother with tampons anymore because they just fill up in about an hour...I just stick to heavy pads. I wonder if it'll ever get better - everyone told me my periods would be LIGHTER after having DD...

Hi Sharon,
I'm going through a similar thing at the moment. I had my boy in Dec, bled for about 6 weeks, and just got bleeding last week. It's heavier and longer than before  , but I've just started the pill too so I'm hoping :fingerscrossed: that they get lighter as the pill kicks in!!!!

I'm reviving a rather old thread here so I hope someone's able to help me with some info/advice. Its comforting to know I'm not the only one who's periods became WAY heavier after having a baby. As with SassyMummy even the biggest and baddest tampon can fill in an hour on a heavy day. Still regular as clockwork but we've had no luck falling pregnant again so I'm wondering if this is a factor? Also - sorry TMI coming up - I find I get heavy spotting when I have a bowel movement just prior to my period starting. GP and IVF doc don't seem to think this is a big deal but I can't help but wonder if something didn't go array when I had Gus. His delivery was natural but posterior and I was never given an internal afterwards as it had all gone so well. Now I'm wondering ...

I had my DS in Dec aswell. My periods are heavier and longer than what they used to be before having him... although I hardly get cramps anymore! I reckon maybe that's the way they'll stay... I would think that everything would be 'cleaned out' by now :)
