Contraception, Breastfeeding and Weaning

Hi All,

Just a question about the Minipill and weaning and whether or not the minipill is still effective even though I my bub has almost weaned?

He still has two feeds (one in morning and one at night) but I dont know if the mini pill is still effective or if I need something stronger?

My DS is nearly 9 months and I havent had a period yet and I have been half weaned now for about 6 weeks.

Does anyone have any experiences?

Hi,
the minipill is fine especially since you haven't got your period yet! If you go onto anything stronger you will not be able to continue breastfeeding as the oestrogen in the mixed pills stop your lactation.

Ah! Thanks Goosie22. Better stay on the minipill then. I was running out and want sure I needed to change to anything stronger.
