A lady in a baby shop told me they have changed the recommended age to have kids in a 5 point harness til. If I remember correctly, it's now 4.5years. :yelclap:

She said the Aust Standards ppl said it would take a while to filter into the legal system to enforce it, so it's not "the law" now, but hopefully soon!

We have some of the safest car seats, but the worst laws.

There is no "age" for the harnesses, only weights. My daughter is 4.5 and still in one, and not likely to outgrow it before she turns 5 either. Some kids reach 18kgs much earlier though. And there unfortunately is no law regarding children from 12 months other than all people in the car must have a seatbelt on  but I've heard it's changing in 2009 so fingers crossed it goes through as it should :fingerscrossed:

yep and its about time too...

i would be suggesting that everyone buy a maxi rider (or similer) now before the price of them goes sky high cos everyone HAS to have them :D

My only concern is that many people don't even put their kids in a foam booster because they cost too much (around $50 to $80) so I'm not sure how it can effectively be brought in that all kids are in safety seats unless they drop the price of them. For me, this is how I prioritise:
1. Safety
2. Cost
3. Comfort
But many people put cost first. I mean, if they can't afford a cheap foam booster, how can they afford a $360 seat? (I know you can get cheaper but Maxi Riders when I bought them were $340 to $360 depending on where you got it from)

That's why I think the baby bonus should be given (in part) in vouchers!! To ensure it goes to things like that.

Or even a rebate system
