View Full Version : Dreams??
I'm new to the forum so forgive me if my message does not make sense. My 5.5 month DS has always been a great sleeper, sleeping through from 8 weeks. He used to wake occasionally and we would pop his dummy in and he would close his eyes and fall straight back to sleep. A couple of weeks ago we stopped wrapping him and he now sleeps in a sleeping bag. He has adjusted to this really well. However twice in the last week he has woken us up in the night crying and when we have gone to him his eyes are closed and he appears to be still asleep. We have had a lot of trouble resettling him and last night after an hour of running in with the dummy I picked him up and brought him to bed with us (not a usual practice for us). With firm cuddles and reassurance he settled again until 7am (this was at 5) but he continued to wimper on & off in his sleep. We think he is dreaming. Does anyone have any ideas?or had this happen to them?

This happened a couple of times for us, from memory at about the same ago too. I guess that little people dream too - although I don't know what they have to dream about that would make them cry - maybe its a dream about their breast/bottle running away from them or something? LOL!
Anyway, the way we dealt with it was just to comfort where needed, but if your bubba is still asleep, then maybe leave him/her go? I find it really difficult to listen to Bubba Claire crying tho, so this wasn't really an option for us - from memory it only happened every now an then for a couple of weeks
Hope this helps - and hope you get some sleep tonight!!:)
Thanks for your replies.
We have thought about letting him cry but he doesn't seem to be able to get himself out of the "dream" or whatever is going on. The first time it happened - he continued on and off for hours and eventually DH woke him up properly and then put him back down and he resettled. I admit that I am a big softie with the crying thing and I know it is because he has always been really good with self settling (with dummy) and I then think something must be wrong when he is unsettled. He has never kept us awake in the night - even from when he was firstborn so this is totally new territory for us. I feel really mean if I let him cry!
I am hopeful that he is just going through a little phase. He has changed a lot in the last month - maybe that has something to do with it.
H i mums and bubs,
Iv,e found there routines change as they change, just when you think you have them in a routine bam!!! it changes. My little fellow ethan does the same thing now it does sound like his dreaming or maybe gets uncomfortable, i turn him over or check he is snug with his blankets, and he goes back to sleep and sometimes he grizzles a little but he gets himself off to sleep this has taken a couple months to achieve as i cut his night feeds out!! now if only i can get myself into the habbit of getting back to sleep at the moment its me with the problem!!!
cheers and happy dreaming!! jo
