Hi all,

On the days I use the slow cooker it's a pain to have to cook rice to go with it in the evening, can I cook rice then freeze it, then just heat it in the microwave when I want it?

Cook your rice as usual.

Allow to cool, then place in refrigerator.

After the rice is chilled in the fridge, transfer rice to freezer bags or containers, and freeze as usual.

Allowing the rice to chill will avoid the problem of mushy rice when you thaw it

I love to freeze rice - its a great time saver:yes:
After its cooled I put mine in zip lock bags, make sure there is no air in them and lay them flat - they take up hardly any room in your freezer this way:)

Excellent! Thankyou!

But yes, as the above poster asked, how long can I keep it in there for?

If you get yourself a microwave rice cooker, rice is the easiest thing in the world to cook.

1 cup of rice
1 1/2 cups of water

5 mins on high and 10 mins on medium

Perfect rice every time!

Enough to serve 3 or 4 adults.

After telling about the rice cooker I forgot to say about frozen rice!

Yes, you can freeze cooked rice
No, I don't usually bother unless it's in with one of my homemade 'instant' frozen meals
If you chill it first and suck all the air out of it in a ziploc bag it keeps best.
I don't particularly like it once it has been frozen. I usually only put it into soups or stews. I find it a bit dry once frozen.

hiya,

We eat rice often and the left overs from our rice cooker, we freeze and then when we have enough, we make fried rice out of it.

Yes, it can be a bit dry when you reheat it, if you are reheating in in the microwave, after it has defrosted, add a few drops of water in the rice and then microwave it with glad wrap on the top to keep the moisture in.

Hope that helps a bit.

Just this weekend I defrosted some rice for DD that had been in the freezer since just before new year, and it was still perfect.

I put it into snap lock bags, and lay them flat as well - and the rice was fine.
