Ok, So I really would like to get a mixer but I'm unsure which one is best, a food processor or a mix master.

What's the difference?

What do you use and why?

What advantages and disadvantages are there of both appliances?

I have a Magimix food processor and I LOVE it. A food processor is for blending, slicing, pureeing, grinding and mine even has a dough hook and egg whisk. A mix master thing is basically a mixing bowl with interchangeable hooks etc for mixing cakes and so forth. I don't have a mix master and if I had to choose only one I would get more use out of a food processor.....which is why I have one. :)

I have both....I just recently got a Mixmaster for my birthday. :goodvibes:

A food processor has a lot more functions then a mixmaster. I bake a lot so thats why I was given a mixmaster but if your not a huge baker you can always just use a handheld mixer and get yourself a awesome food processor. :)

I do like my baking but I think I would get more use out of a food processor. Can't you use a food processor is mix as well? I'm thinking I might take your advice Lollie86 and go with the food processor and hand held mixer (if needed).

I have a Kenwood chef. My Kenwood can mix , whisk, do dough, mince, blend, peel potatoes, juice citrus, slice & shred... the list goes on & on :D.
It is however very noisy. The best ones are the 700 series which were made anywhere from the 60's to the 70's (i think). The attachments are endless, or so it seems and they are a true workhorse of the kitchen.

BTW mines' not working ATM but when it is ... look out;)

Your right....some food processors can mix too.

Before getting my mixmaster I had a handheld mixer from coles that was about $20 and has held up for about 3 years!

I'd get both (in fact I did)

Depending on how much you use them and what for I bought the sunbeam oskar, which is a small food processor, just the right size for making dips and pesto and chopping veg.(it has a chopping chute attachment)

And I bought a small cheap hand held mixer. for making cakes, meringues etc.

These two items do me for all the times I've needed them. They're small and compact and don't take up all my cupboard space and you cen get both for under $200!

have you thought about getting a stab blender?

you can get them with different attachments to wisk, or blend, and mine has a small contained processer to chop nuts and herbs etc.

it is great for soups, milkshakes, purees, and i scramble eggs with mine too.
