help guys - I dont know how serious this is??

my little man has had little red/orange marks at the front of his night nappy for the last two mornings - they just look like little dots (two at most) - I'm kinda freaking on the inside - worried that they might be blood???

am I being silly? has anyone had this happen? - he wears cloth nappies - usually wears a fleece nappy at night time - to keep him really dry??!!

is this a symptom of a UTI??

any and all feedback would be appreciated- I dont want to go to the DR unless it is definately needed (I hate feeling like a loopy mum)

Hi Veve,

It sounds like it could be urates, which happen when the baby has really concentrated urine!

It could be a sign of a UTI but usually is from not drinking much.

I would make sure he drinks heaps Boobie/water stay away from sugary things/juice( unless he will drink cranberry diluted) as the Ph will make a UTI seem worse if it is one, and if it happens again you may have to visit your doctor and have do a Urine speci which just involves a sticky bag over his Penis to catch the urine.

thanks guys :)

I will check the nappy for the next few nights (haven't seen anything during the day...) - he seems to be drinking as much as usual (only 4 feeds a day though - but he never asks for more??!) .. I haven't offered any water since the summer heat!!? it would be wonderful if it is something so simple...

I have an appointment with my GP early next week ,.. and have CHN possibilitiy tomorrow ... I might see her first :) My GP isn't the easiest to get in to see!!!

((hugs))

I had the exact thing happen to my son few weeks ago! I took him to the doctor and they did a urine test on him and it came up as nothing was wrong. There was no infection and no trace of blood in his urine. It only happened twice and has not happened since, so to this day. The doc said it was probably just a bit of poo that had gotten into the opening of his penis and had stained the nappy when it came out over time. If your concerned get it checked out but it sounds like the same thing! Let me know how you go!

my DS was 3 weeks old when I noticed blood about the size of a 5 c piece in his nappy. I took him to the Dr that day and it turned out he had a UTI.
It can't hurt to get him checked out by you GP.

Hi. I recently took my ds - 3, to the dr with a suspected UTI. Dr told me that it is very rare for a little boy to get these, and if they do, there needs to be some serious investigation as to why. He also said that ds would have been extremly ill had that of been the problem. If you are worried, take him along to the dr, or you could just ask at the chemist. He may just have some serious concentrated wee atm!! good luck!

This happened to my little man a while ago - it was urates and nothing to be worried about. But get it checked for peace of mind

Yes this is true. My DS had to have an U/S on his kidneys and a kidney function test to check for kidney reflux.
