what do you give your child that is allergic to most things..
we are on a wheat, soy , diary , rice free diet and are trialling her on certain fruits and vegies atm..
however the last few weeks she is looking for more.. (she has just turned 1 ) and so im wondering what i can offer her in way of a puree / cereal for breakfast..
at the moment she is trialing banana (we think she is ok on them ) we are back onto vegie trials as well..
she has only successfully been on pears and pear puree but she is refusing them .. perhaps looking for variety i suspect :)
i read quinoa is good ..but not sure how to cook it up as a cereal ? or do i just mix it up ? she is highly allergic to rice so she associates the similiar texture to pain..
any thoughts?
hey just some so uneducated thougts lol you know me always trying to find stuff alergy bubs can have
frozen elecare on sticks you know the icey pop makers
or is she alergic to gelatine if not maybe ele jelly

is bubs allergic or intolerent?
I think pear is the most no-allergenic fruit (which you have tried), followed by peach. But your DD may have a sensitivity to peach, especially if she is allergic to rice, which is also supposed to be fairly non-allergenic.
Can she eat corn? If she can, polenta is an excellent smooth food and really yummy too. It can be made with formula for a more creamy texture or just plain water.

Try sago cooked in water with fruit puree mixed through it after it's cooked

kayteO - patch testing shows she is allergic to them :)
we trialled alittle corn pasta 100% corn - we are going to try it again in some chicken puree.. so ill give polenta ago if it is good :) how do i cook with it though ?
sago ..i might give that ago too ..
thanks.. can i make th sago in advance or does it need to be made up then and there?
Polenta - just bring an saucepan of water to simmering and add one-minute polenta in a slow and steady stream to water, stirring all the time.
Stop adding polenta when the water changes to yellow - you will have to experiment - too much polenta and it will go hard and gluggy, too little and it will be thin and soup like.
Boil for a minute or two until smooth, remove from heat and serve immediately (once cool enough - beware it gets really hot, hotter than rice, so make sure you test it before giving it to DD).
You can substitute half the water for formula if she can have formula.
As a rule of thumb, put as much fluid in the pan as you want to feed your DD as that is roughly what volume you will end up with.
It can be kept once made and served again but I would only make 2 meals at a time. If you are going to serve after being in the fridge, I would thin with a little hot water until you get the right consistency.
You can mix it with fruit or serve it plain for a more savoury taste. Once you are aware of the vegies that she can tolerate, you can make vegetable stock with the safe vegies and use this to cook the polenta if for lunch or dinner.
PS have you tried her with turkey puree too? Turkey is a good non-allergenic meat as well but of course you will need to check her tolerance first.
Take care with the polenta - trial a little first of course.
Your poor little DD :hugs::hugs:

Sago can be cooked in advance - but it can set quick thick if fruit puree is not stirred through.
A small amount of boiling water added to set Sago will make it runny again.
You can normally find it with the Jelly and Puddings in Safeway etc
ETA - polenta can be cooked with Chicken Stock for a savoury meal, and with experimentation can make a crumbly savoury "slice" that can be served cold
Polenta is also good to replace bread crumbs in a lot of other recipes and goes well in hamburgers and tuna patties

How do you feel about allergies and commercial cooked fruit and veg?
I saw a thread on this subject a little while ago. Being that jar/can fruit and veg may be better????

quinoa is great..just boil it up like rice till the grains unfurl like a comma...add it to casseroles, bake it in a loaf, eat cold or warm...it is a very neutral flavour and incredibly nutritious
oats are good too
you could try sweet potato (not a potato at all-its a yam) they are very fortifying and low allergenic
maybe try apple or cucumber?

Add corn to your list and your daughter sounds like ours!!
We used spelt pasta and this was fine. We also used an organic rice cereal, loads of banana and avocado as well as puree vege with puree lamb when she was old enough. Other ideas are the plain rice cakes for snacks and shaved apple for finger food.
