Do you wait until your child reaches 18kgs before taking them out of a 5-point harness, or put them in it slightly before they reach 18kgs? My DD is 16.4kgs and I thought of getting it now, but then I also want her in a 5-point harness for as long as possible. The other thing is that if she reaches 18kgs it's no longer safe to have her in a 5-point harness so I'd want her to be in the H harness before it's unsafe. Just not sure when to do it. When did you put your kids into a H harness?

In retrospect - far too early with DD. She was about 16kgs, but was too big for her safe and sound (it wasn't wide enough for her derriere! She went into a full back booster at about 3 with a h-harness.

With DS, I am waiting as long as possible. He has one of the 5 point harness boosters that go from 8-26kgs, and the 5 point harness suitable to 18kgs. (then you remove the 5 point harness, add the h-harness and use the lap-sash belt). He is currently just over 17kgs. I am guessing that he will only be light enough to use the 5 point harness for another few months.

I'd wait till she was 18kgs or a little over.My DS2 is just over 18kgs and when i purchased our H Harness it didnt fit him properly so thats one of the reasons we ordered the US Britax Regent, it harness till 36.36kgs.

Sorry, just to clarify:
are you going to put her in a H Harness, with the buckle down the bottom, making it a 5 point harness??

If not, I would personally try to leave them in the 5 point harness for as long as possible - heaps safer.

The harness goes up to 32kgs, but her seat goes up to 26kgs. I'm undecided on when to take her out the H harness, if she's like me, which I think she will be, she will reach 32kgs at 15! I was 49kgs when I gave birth to her, but that's after losing 9kgs during pregnancy. Now weigh 52kgs, so I don't think she'll be in the H harness at 15 but you never know, I might enforce that ;)

Ahh... okay :)

I think I'd leave it til 18kgs - or until they're too tall for the straps (if they start below the shoulder)

...and not the other way around - sometimes the little delicate girls can be 'short' enough to stay in the 18kgs harness, but I heard somewhere that 18kg is all it can handle in a crash. So once they're over the weight, move them up.

Thats my opinion anyways :D

Yes 18kgs is all they can handle in an accident which is why it goes by weight not by height unless the child's eyes are level with the parcel shelf. She'll stay in it but I thought she might shift to the H harness at around 17.5kgs or something like that rather than have her slightly over 18kgs without me noticing she's put on weight because that way she'll still be safe and the anti-submarine clip makes it like a 5-point harness where they can't slide down the seat.

As for the h harness thing, ive acctually got dd in one now at 7 months (a pram, not a carseat) is that safe? I dont exactly have the money for a new pram OR harness..

what kind of pram have you got ?
is there something in between her legs to hold her in from slipping out that way ?
if so then im sure it will be fine for now but maybe keep an eye out on ebay or something. im just thinking as she gets older it may get a little iffy

My daughter is almost 8 and no she isn't in a harness and booster. Neither is my 4 year old. They are both just too tall and my girl way too big.
My 2 year old is. I am not sure of his weight, close to 18kg I would imagine. He is in the middle of the back seat with a booster and H harness.

I just rang the baby shop. I'll shift her when she's around 17.5 - 17.9kgs (which will probably be around another 12 to 18 months or so) and the ambulance can install the harness so it's threaded through the seat itself and the harness and the seat can both be bolted in :yelclap:
