Hi all,

I am 9 weeks pregnant and we found out yesterday that my husband is currently battling CM Virus and Glandular Fever. So, I went in for blood tests today to find out my immunity - am waiting on the results and hopefully our new baby is in no danger of anything!:fingerscrossed:

But in the inerim, I have been told that Olive Leaf Extract is an excellent immune booster / antiviral remedy - my husband has all sorts of allergies and gluten issues and candida problems etc etc (although he really is very fit and strong and generally healthy) so he is going on it straight away! I'll also start my other children on it too ... but I have had conflicting advice about it during pregnancy? I've done a bit of web research and they are not conclusive. I have spoken with a Naturopath who said probably not due to not enough evidence to guarantee safety ... but if anyone has any personal experience or a website that they can direct me to that would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

I would think Olive Leaf Extract would be fine, I would get a second opinion. Also ask about Colloidal Silver which is a natural anti-viral/antibiotic, and is readily available in chemists these days.

I am 36 weeks pregnant and have been advised by my naturopath not to take Olive Leaf during pregnancy. Your naturopath is correct, olive leaf is not regulated and has not be rated for pregnancy. All drugs including natural remedies in common use within Australia are rated as A B or C. The A classification is safe for use during pregnancy. I would strongly advise that you stick to other natural products that your naturopath can prescribe for you, rather than risking your pregnancy with something untested. I have used olive leaf for many years before becoming pregnant and found it to be fantastic, but I would not use it during pregnancy.

I'm 5 weeks preg and sooo tempted to take Olive Leaf extract - have a really nasty virus that's affecting respiratory & spent half a day at hospital yesterday as was worried I had pneumonia... it's a REALLY nasty bug.

The DR at hospital didn't know anything about olive leaft extract, but from everything I've read online, probably best to avoid.
The DR DID know about Coloidal Silver and said DO NOT TAKE IT, ESPECIALLY when pregnant. Coloidal Silver leaves deposits in your kidney's and liver & can kill you in high doses. I subsequently have stopped taking it. Once bub's is born, I'll go back to olive leaf extract & colloidal silver (occasionally, only when needed for sore throats) b/c in smaller quantities it seems to be beneficial. Those who have died from colloidal silver took reallyhigh doses & the skin on face had gone grey from it (the Dr said they have these details on the computer in Hospital Emergency as a reference for diagnosis on anyone presenting with these symptoms). So, definitely DO NOT TAKE colloidal silver when pregnant or breastfeeding, who knows what nasty damage it could do to a feotus or a little infants organs!!
