Yep - what she said! Lots of nice walks and views and Woodend is nearby, its a really cute town. I grew up out that way *well I think Im all growd up*

I think you have to pay to get into Hanging Rock now, which sucks

Oh yeah, do a day trip to Dayelsford, its really pretty, the lake is nice and lots of nice shops to browse (if you dare!)

Like what others have said, I would have also suggested hanging rock or going for some nice walks. We stay at the resort there when we go and there is a nice lake and horse riding. :)

We are staying at the bushland resort. I have been there but I was about 10.

I was trying to convince DP that we needed an ergo so we can take both kids on walks (already got a HAB for DD) but he wasn't into it.

What is the track like at hanging rock?? Could you take a pram or is it real bush?

theres walking tracks to and around the base of hanging rock but from then its stairs and not pram friendly and its about $6-10 a car for entry but they also have a little museum that has info about "Picnic at hanging rock"
The Mt Macedon Cross lookout is more pram friendly, Free and has a cafe
Dayelsford/Heburn Springs is good too they have Mineral springs and spa/pool(HB) and lake(D)

On one of the days you could drive an extra hour up the calder and come up to Bendigo. Lots of pretty decent shops (pumpkin patch, etc) and there is lake weerona which is on the main road just past the main bit of town where you guys and the kids could feed all the ducks, swans, seagulls (kinda like the beach!), etc.

HTH!! Oh also Kyneton has gorgeous botanical gardens that I went to with DF & whole family on boxing day, nice and shaddy and green. Beautiful! :)

Oh that's near me too. Bushlands is nice and the pool and spa is loovley. I go for a swim there on tuesday mornings.

Walking tracks around Hanging rock are fine with a pram but if you want to go up there is a ramp but it's a bit too steep for a pram. We took our 3 and the dog up when DS3 was about 6 months and still fit in the carrier. I think car parking has gone up to $10 now. Woodend is great for cafe's and there is also Keatings Hotel which is a microbrewery they do great beer and meals and have local wines in too. There is a little museum in Kyneton if that's your thing gives you the history of the place. I agree Daylesford is nice so is Castelmaine and if you like trains there is a steam train that goes from Castlemain to Maldon.

Hope you have a good time it's lovely up here.

Thanks for the link. BUT, they are not running trains in Feb

We are taking the opportunity to undertake significant works including bridge and track work as well as allowing the installation of the Bendigo to Ballarat Pipeline under the railway at Muckleford.
Wouldn't you know it, they do this when we are coming up!

I agree with everyone. I lived in Kyneton for a couple of years. Woodend is lovely as is Trentham. Daylesford is definately worth a visit but be aware it is very busy on the weekends. A bit like Acland St in St Kilda.
On the way to Daylesford is a Waterfall but I think b/c of the drought it has been closed? Not sure
Hanging Rock is fab & the caf is really good but I also begrudge paying so much to park there. The Cross & Mt Macedon are great. Terrific Pub at Mt Macedon. Not sure if you are into gardens but Mt Macedon has some of the best gardens in Victoria & at different times some are open (for a charge) to raise money for Charities.
There are a couple of nice cafs in Kyneton & as stated earlier the Bot. Gardens are lovely.

enjoy.

:iagree: with all above.

I live in Castlemaine nice walk around here and we have a nice big shaddy park with a playgound/bbq area.
My dh was born in Kyneton and yep the park there is also nice. It is alot like castlemaine with it's cafes etc.
I grew up in Bendigo and yes there is alot to do there if you want a day out. From the gold mine and tram tours to shopping.
I'm sure you will find heaps to do around the area.

I would not hold out any hope on the Falls (sorry).
I cannot believe I forgot beautiful Castlemaine.
When I lived in Kyneton we used to go the movies at Castlemaine. they have the best Cinema. Terrific selection of movies but the best part was you could get a glass of wine (& food) & sit down at a table and watch the movie. I loved it.
(They has proper seats upstairs)
I think they have bands there sometimes also.
It is a lovely town & well worth a visit.
Maldon is also lovely & I think it has a steam railway also.
