Just a couple of questions for those that have flown internationally with a 6mth old baby.

Did you have to pay for the 6mth old baby?
If so, how much did you pay?
If so, did you have a extra seat or a basinette/cot provided?
If so,did you have any extra baggage allowance to cover baby items/luggage?
What airline did you fly?
Was anything additional provided by the airline or its cabin crew to make travelling easier with a baby?

Just curious, as we're due to fly to Vanuatu in April and they are charging $40 return for my 6mth old baby, just wondered why as she won't have a meal or a seat to herself??

Hi

it's been a while but when we flew to Australia with my, at that time, 4 mths old, we didn't had to pay. We only paid for the airport taxes.

I think, that's what the 40 Dollars are, normally you pay them when you book your flight but you can also pay them directly at the airport.

He got a bassinette, where we could put him in, to sleep and they also provided nappies, wipes, bibs and babyfood (he wasn't on solids at that time but I could have had some, if I would have needed it)

They also poured hot water in his bottle, when he was due for his feed and let it cool down, before they gave it to me.

The services was excellent and the stewardesses were very friendly.

Can't remember the luggage though, but I think, the infant was allowed to have 20 KG as well. And for on board, I just had a bag with my stuff and a bag with my Son's stuff in it. That was ok.

That was with Singapore Airlines.

Hth :)

Zenifa, i'm headding overseas with the kids on sunday, i'm starting to worry about it already, taking them both on my own, scary stuff lol

i've flowen with DS heaps of times, not once did I need to use the basinette, my flights were all only 4hrs though, he would sleep on my lap

right up till the age of @ I never payed for him once, well actually I lie, I did have to pay $7 for him once, and with DD this time only payed $7, I don't need to pay airport taxes or anything for the kids

if you pay full price for bubs you will get a seat,

with the luggage allowance, it all depends on who your flying with, normally though they use 5kgs of your allowance, the 5kgs will cover, a portacot, pram and carseat, also if you pay for a seat, you'll have additional luggage allowance

Did you have to pay for the 6mth old baby?
Yes
If so, how much did you pay?
10% of the adult fair. It was a flight to Germany so it was around$180
If so, did you have a extra seat or a basinette/cot provided?
No seat, only a bassinet.
If so,did you have any extra baggage allowance to cover baby items/luggage?
I think they did get a small luggage allowance, and they also got their own carry on.
What airline did you fly?
Royal Brunei
Was anything additional provided by the airline or its cabin crew to make travelling easier with a baby?
The cabin crew were excellent and helped us out a lot. They did provide baby food (which was horrible), but we just took our own anyway.

Yes
If so, how much did you pay?
10% of the adult fair. plus taxes I believe

No seat, only a bassinet. And at 6 months he was starting to get too big for it anyway so slept on my lap most of the time. As he got bigger it got better to ask if there were any free seats and ask to be put there cos you can lift the arm rest and lay them down on the seat. The arm rests by the bassinet dont go up.
If so,did you have any extra baggage allowance to cover baby items/luggage?
He got 20kg and one piece of carry on baggage.
What airline did you fly?
British Airways & Qantas
Was anything additional provided by the airline or its cabin crew to make travelling easier with a baby?
Um they provided food but inappropriate food... like Beef Stew & Custard for breakie! All tinned stuff. Oh and the usual getting on before Economy etc. and being able to take the stroller to the gate. Shame they didnt have the stroller waiting for us at the gate at the other end. Had to pick that up with the luggage

No seat, you can however buy it and fix car seat to it. You would pay as adult I believe. There are bassinets, but the use of them was limited as every time the light - put seatbelts on - you have to take bub out and fasten him to your seatbelt. So I ended up to use bassinet just for her play and stretch time otherwise she was on me sleeping.
If so,did you have any extra baggage allowance to cover baby items/luggage?
Yes 10Kg additional allowance, that includes a stroller if you wish to take on board.
What airline did you fly?
Singapore Air

The attendants are very heplful and you get a bag with some toys bib and nappy.
