My 10 week old sleeps well at night (somehow he knows its night) but during the day is lucky to sleep 10 minutes at a time. When he wakes up he is happy to just lie there and stare at the ceiling, but will very rarely go back to sleep by himself. When I pick him up and start rocking him back to sleep he really fights it, and I can tell hes really tired. On average he may get 30min - 1hr sleep in total, in 6 to 8 hours!

Should I keep on trying to put him back to sleep until he gets a decent sleep? I have tried keeping him up to see if hes not tired but he just gets grizzly really quickly!!

I had EXACTLY the same problem when my little man was at that age... He was sleeping for 12-13 hours per night but I would be lucky if he would nod off for ten minutes during the day.

My local community nurse was telling me to persist and that he needed more sleep... but if he didn't want to sleep I found there wasn't alot I could do about it.. as he got older his sleeping patterns started to form during the day. He increased to half hour naps and then moved to 45 mins to an hour.

The best advice I was given was to go along with his patterns and let him sleep as much as he did / didn't want to. Eventually I found he was wanting to sleep longer and got himself into his own routine.

I found this worked for me... do whatever works for you.. There really is no right or wrong way!!

Good luck!!! :)

I just dont get it! As soon as I pick him up he struggles and whinges, then his eyes roll back in his head and hes out like a light. I put him down and hes wide awake!

Hmmm. just put him down in my bed and he hasnt woken up...I think thats telling me that hes getting too used to mummy to put him to sleep! Hes got my scent all around him! (good excuse to not wash the sheets LOL)

Edit last comment:- he woke up :crying:

Hi Carls

T used to do that, we put one of hubby's worn shirts under her as a sheet in the bassinette, and it did ok....i used to put her in the bassinette on the "sheet" and hug her whilst she was lying down (just bend over faces close) and it helped her learn how to get to sleep herself, and when she woke up, Im assuming she could smell her Daddo and went back off to sleep.

Worth a try maybe??
