I've been thinking of what the new baby can give my daughter (it's big sister), who is 4, when it arrives?

Do you think one of those sturdy little Fisher Price (or similar) kids digital cameras is a bit much, or should I be thinking along the lines of a colouring book and some new pencils? I don't know!!

Those digital cameras are about $70 and we are doing things tight (financially) atm, but I thought she might enjoy having a camera to take photos of her new sister/brother as she enjoys using my camera. I could always lay-by one and pay it off over the next few months.

that does sound like a nice idea... although my sister bought one for my niece she is also 4 and they do take pretty poor pictures....

you could do up a scrap book that she can add to "the big book of dd &dd" iykwim?!

and just take photos of them together, the first time they met etc.

Hi

How about getting some disposable cameras so that she can take lots of snaps when she comes to visit you in hospital??

As for what else I dont know, as my dd is younger (she will be three) I am thinking of a doll:detective: Also I saw on the internet that you can get slings that kids can put their teddies/dolls in and also sleeping bags. Basically anything so that dd can copy what I am doing with the baby without getting too hands on!!!

Will be watching this thread with interest.

I have two of those cheap digital cameras that a bookclub were giving away. It's about 5cm long, has no screen on the back, but has cables and and that to hook up to the computer, so if you want to pay for the postage, I'll send it down to you and you can still get her some crayons.

If you're interested, let me know and I can send you pics and stuff. Postage would be max of $5.

We did the same thing for our DS with DD was born.

DS had not long been crawling when DD was born. So we got him this thing he could crawl to and pull himself up and play music and a monkey would start dancing.

It stayed at the hospital with me, so he had something to play with also every time he came to the hospital.

And DH and I bought him a beautiful big brother card and wrote a special message in it from his Mummy and Daddy.

When #3 comes along we will be doing the same again.

Hi, when my twins were born I got DD1 who was 4.5yrs at the time a doll. Then also gave her a little bag with a magic bottle, newborn nappies and pretend baby wipes.

My DD (who is 3 1/2 years old) loves butterflies and has a butterfly theme in her bedroom. When my DS was born last year he "gave" her a hand-painted picture of a butterfly in the same colours as her room (lilac and pink). I bought it off Ebay for about $15 and it's a lovely little momento.

My friend got her DD a gift 'from the baby', a little girl's jewellry box which had some cute little necklaces and bracelets. It had the spinning ballerina and played a tune and all that.

Her DD loved it, and it proved to be a great 'toy' at the hospital too, in terms of keeping her DD busy.

How about an 'activity box', get a box (clear tub with lid if you have funds) and fill it with things she can do while you breast feed, but will be a present too..
Fill it with
Crayons, Pencils, Paper
Crafty stuff
Stickers
Colouring in books
Disposable camera
Bubbles
Cheap toys
Maybe new DVD

Of course just buying little bits depending on budget/

Good luck:hugs:
