I am in the process of trying to get into a birth centre to have my baby.Obviously that means no drugs,so am exploring the option of a waterbirth.
Just wondering who's had one,and what the experience was like?

Yeah,I had a bed birth last time.I was just sooo tired,I had to lie down.My middies were trying to get my up and moving but I just couldnt!I want to be more active this time!
I also heard that the water softens everything "down there" hehe, and there is less chance of tearing? Is that true?

Yes, well for me it was true....I tore with number one but didn't with two or three....I think it was the water plus the absence of drugs that helped be more in control:)

I had a wonderful water birth nearly 7 months ago. With #3 i WILL be having another waterbirth no doubt about it!
I didn't feel like i needed pain relief at all. the water helped so much.

With DD (no water birth) i had a few small grazes and felt like i had bit hit by a truck down there after her birth...ohh the pain.

But with DS i had two grazes, and after his birth i could not feel a thing, no pain whatsoever. No stinging when i had to wee etc.. Amazing!

I've had two water births. Getting in the water, you feel like you have extra privacy to just let go and birth, which is great for aiding birth and avoiding excess pain, etc. I've never birthed on land (first baby was a c-section), and can't imagine ever birthing out of water.

MEEE!! The best expereince ever...
I will definitely only ever have water births from now on!!!
I had a 9p7o baby, so he wasn't exactly small...But I had a tiny graze and one stitch. No pain afterwards at all...
SOOOO GOOOOOD!! You gotta give it a shot!!!

Hey Chels...Congratulations!! Not sure if I've said that or not yet.

I had a water birth with Koby at GCH. It was great. I did tear but I believe that was due to being induced and having my waters broken. Poor Kobes was rushed along a bit so for me it wasn't as perfect as I'd imagined...was also pretty painful due to induction.

BUT..I got the waterbirth I wanted, no pain relief and I delivered him myself.

I hope you get into the birth centre, it was a great experience for me.

I have had all 5 of my babies in water at home - my most favourite place to birth with no tears and for some only small grazes. My largest 12lbs 9 oz - no tears at all. I find hopping in the birth pool during labour is like having a hot bath after a tiring day...it helps to relax the muscles and takes away any extra stressful feelings

I DO think you can lesson the chance of tears by not rushing to push baby out when the bearing down feeling starts.
B R E A T H E baby out!!! gently and carefully and the water helps too

Yep, I had one just over a week ago :D

Whilst I was expecting the water to help with the pain of contractions, interestingly for me it actually made them twice as intense. BUT...in between contractions I could completely relax (was seen to be snoring at one point :o:p) and that was invaluable.

I also needed to start pushing out of the water, but got back in about half way through as I was determined to have a water birth.

I did have a first degree tear but it was my first bub and she was 9lbs 4oz and presented slightly off centre, so I think I did pretty well. Highly recommended, I don't intend on birthing on land ever!

That's awesome Chels, really happy for you.
Blegh, makes me so annoyed when you hear those ignorant comments.
Babies live in amniotic fluid for 9 months. Laboring and birthing them in water is not going to harm them. :)

I loooooved my waterbirth- I know you will too.

LOL

Just tell your MIL she can shove her supercilious demeanor up her bum bum. :D
Then, don't shave your arm pits for 9 months, that'll teach her!
