My DS, now 7 and a bit months, shows no interest at all in solids!

Since the day he turned 6 months I have been trying rice cereal each day (with either EBM or cooled boiled water), and have also experimented with a range of veges and fruit - trying something new every few days. All he does is leave his mouth hanging open with the food drooling on out, and looking at me as if to say "what on earth are you trying to do to me mum!"

I also try giving him rusks to teethe on (he already has 7 teeth! :D) but he has no interest in them either!

Has anyone else's bub shown this little interest, or indeed disdain, for food???? When did it improve??? Any tips for making him interested?? Or should I juzt continue as we are and hope that one day he 'gets' it?!

I really don't want to force the issue and have him resist food even more. But it is getting rather frustrating!

NOTE: I should mention my fully BF boy is quite a chubby little fellow, so I have no concerns that he is going to waste away!!

Many thanks in advance!!!! :)

I'd actually just offer him steamed, soft vegies as fingerfood and let him take charge. Solids aren't important until they're over 1 year. Things like steamed broccoli, carrot, even pear and apple pieces. It's much more about experimenting at this stage than nutrition.

Just keep offering and let him take charge with fingerfood.

hi ticktock
my DD is fully breastfed and totally uninterested in solids too! She just closes her mouth and refuses to eat much of anything. Have tried rice cereal, fruit (will eat smalll amount of banana or pears), vegies, yoghurt and custard. She will also eat small amounts of avacado with pears. Ive been too paranoid of her choking to give her finger food.

My DS was the total opposite - bottlefed and on three small meals a day by this age. Let me know how you go or if you find any other tips

My DS was fully breastfed and we only started trying solids at 7.5 months. He wasn't really interested either (despite also being a big, chubby boy) - he knew his boob was good for him ;)

Somewhere towards the end of his first year he started showing a bit of interest in finger food, he never liked mushy garbage. But he really didn't eat enough to make up a decent portion of his diet until he was 18 months old or so. He's 3.5 now, and has a healthy appetite and loves his food.

As long as your little man is getting plenty of boob and thriving on it, I wouldn't worry about it too much!

I really would not worry about it if he is not interested yet.....Don't push it he will when he is ready. I would just try the steamed veges and let him take charge as KapowSchazam said.

If he is happy and putting on weight without the solids I would not be worried.

I have a mesh feeder that you put the solid foods in if you are worried about the choking on foods. I got mine from BIG W as well as replacement mesh parts. It cost less than $15 all up.

Thanks for your responses ladies!

I guess I'll just continue to offer and will experiment a bit with some finger food, and will give a mesh feeder a go.

TBH I'm not too stressed as his weight/health isn't a problem at this stage - I guess I just wanted to know that he's not the only bub to not be interested at this age.
