I'm considering having breast implants. Not because I am unhappy with myself and not because I have low self-esteem either. My boobs have gone south since having the children (and breastfeeding continually for 5 years). For the last 5 years they have been a 12D (small D), but now that my last one has weaned herself they are a floppy 12B. I miss the volume and perkiness.

I still haven't made up my mind. I don't really like the idea of surgery, but am sick of padding my bra's and wearing serious push-up ones. I'd like to wear a dress or a shirt that didn't require a bra!

Anyway, tell me your good stories and bad stories. I'm ready.... I'm psychologically fit, so don't worry about my state of mind!

You might just need a breast lift instead of implant.

Yes we (the surgeon and I) did talk about that, but that's a big operation too, they have take your whole nipple of and replace it further up - youch! The surgeon said that implants will also give my boobs a lift!

I've been thinking about implants too.

My boobs were always big and round...but since DD was born (only less than 8 months ago), they are saggy and just plain ugly. Bras DO work wonders...but I wish I didn't have to rely on them all the time. It's be nice to wear something that would fit better WITHOUT a bra...

My sis has implants, for a medical reason tho, she didn't have to pay for them, so I have no idea what they cost.
She was expecting it to be really painful and not to be able to move her arms much for ages. But she was out of hospital the same day, and while she wasn't allowed to lift her arms up for a few weeks she was back to normal within a month. She was told not to drive, lift anything heavy, hang out washing, etc for 6 weeks but was able to do most of it after 4 weeks.
I guess my point is, if you want to do it then go for it. It doesn't seem to be as painful as the drs would like us to think. Just make sure it's what you really want.

I didn't realise you had already talked with someone.

I don't have any more advice or suggestions, but good luck with it all.

I use to work in an OR and saw many, many women coming and have this OP..keep in mind that you have to usually have it re-done every 8-10 years as the implants can get old and possibley leak  So a lift is good in that respect!

I myself have seriously been considering having a boob job...... except DP wont let me:confused: He says he "likes em just they way they are" but i dont...... for some reason they nver grew properly so they are kind of ummmmm "misshappen" i suppose you could say- they arnt the round tear drop shaped boobs Id love and they are only a 12b evven now that im pregnant- they havnt grown a bit:eek: ......

The only thing Im concerned about is the surgeons mucking it up...you hear sooo many bad stories- leaking implants, infection etc.......

I would say if you want to do it then GO FOR IT!! YOU have to be happy with your body and feel good about yourself so if you want to do it Id say why not?

I suppose the only thing to be careful about would be choice of surgeon.....make sure your 100% sure of him/her etc..... but other than that Id have to say I dont see any reason as to why you couldnt do it:thumbsup:

2 people in my family have them. One was done about 25-30 years ago and is still fine - even the way they did it with the silocone filled bag - no leaks, no deterioriation.

The other person did have a leak and had to have them replaced a few years ago. The only problem with that is that when they removed the first implant, they also had to take out all the scar tissue etc that had formed around it, which meant the hole left to be filled was bigger than the original one and so a bigger implant needed to be used - hence it wasn't just like an equivalent replacement but an enlargement again and she didn't necessarily want them any larger!

The good news is that they don't use those silicone filled bags anymore - they are more like a jelly ball, as your surgeon probably told you/showed you. These don't have any risk of leaking but they do say they might need to be replaced because of deterioration in 20 or 30 years. I'm not sure if they say that just to cover themselves but anyway, that's what my relative (above) has now. Her replacements were put in just a year or so before falling pregnant and she had no trouble breastfeeding her little one either. That's not a concern for you since you're finished feeding but I thought I'd throw that in for anyone else reading who might be interested. :)

I also have about 3 friends who have had it done and the consensus seems to be that the pain is not intolerable at all, but varies depending on the size of the implant. A couple of days of discomfort and certainly some restricted arm movement but a lot of people are back at work in a week. Everyone is told that they will never be as soft as normal breasts because they aren't normal breasts, but how hard or soft they are seems to vary greatly and depends on how much of your own breast tissue you have to start with. One friend of mine went from completely flat to a D cup (she also had quite a bit more pain than others) so they are harder. Others have been much softer to touch.

This is something I would consider having done in the future, mine have really sagged since having children, they are great right now the size they are, but that's being pg....lol...if they were like this all the time I would be happy. Not sure of the costs though and I know private health insurance (at least mine which is almost top level) doesn't cover cosmetic surgery, so I gues it's something one would have to save up for. An eye lift wouldn't go astray either :p
My mother had it done about 20yrs ago and was happy with it, as far as I know she has had no problems.

You know I love you etc. etc. But a D cup? You are a D for delusional.

Thanks for all your replies gals.

Sopolicha, I don't have much to myself these days, so if a delusion is all I have of my own, then I have something!:hugs:
