Hi
Can anyone tell me whether bottle warmers are worth the money.

Im currently feeding a 8 week old with expressed breastmilk and formula, and warm his bottles in a beer stien (*hic*) with boiling water from the jug.

I'v seen a Avent bottle warmer for $90 in the chemist and are wondering if this is just a fancy version of what im already doing. I really cant afford to waste $90 as we have 2 kids under 1 1/2 years and on one wage.

Thanks heaps

Hi Christine,
When I was feeding Vallerie EBM and later formula, I considered investing in a bottle warmer - but in the end, I figured that we could manage with the system we already had (pretty much the same as what you're doing now :)) In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't buy one, because Vallerie only had milk in bottles for about the next 4 months, and I would have kicked myself if I'd spent all that money unnecessarily! I guess you have to weigh up whether it would be worth the money.

I'm not sure if they still have them, but I remember seeing a brand of Kettle where it had a "cooking basket" inside it, I think it was marketed towards young singles, you could put noodles, or steam vege's in it. I remember when I saw it thinking that would make a great (and multi-purpose!) bottle warmer.

We have the Advent bottle warmer and still use it after 2 years but it was bought for us. On a budget you can pretty much do the same thing with a kettle and a large plastic cup.

Hi

I never used a bottle warmer. My daughter had formula (I'm not sure if its different for breast milk) and I just warmed it up in the microwave. Just remember to shake it well before giving it to your bub.

EBM can't go in the microwave (it kills off the nutrients in it) but I pretty much used the same system as you Christine (large jug boiling water and dunk bottle and shake LOL ). I did look at the bottle warmers but really $90 for only around 12m of use seemed a waste. I decided the money was better spent else where :D

I bought a travel bottle warmer, absolutely useless  it says on the front of the box, warms milk in minutes, but then when you get the instructions out of the box it says it takes 20 minutes  well it took more than that with my EBM, after 30 mintues i finally handed it to DD to feed to the bub and it was still not warm

I recently invested in an Avent Bottle and Food Warmer. It is BRILLIANT!! No more wasting water from the jug or burning myself (Im rather clumbsy at times). I find it so quick and am wondering why on earth I didnt get one sooner. I got mine from Babies Galore last week (10% off sale) and got it for about $72. I wouldnt hesitate in recommending them.

I am bottle feeding my second baby and have never used a bottle warmer. I bought a microwavable mug (x2) from the supermarket for a couple of dollars and used that with boiled water at home and you can normally always find some water and a microwave to heat the water in the mug when you're out. Under five dollar solution and never a problem.

We are only formula feeding now and absolutely love the Avent bottle warmer. We have a bub that can go mad if he isn't fed within a minute or two or waking up so we leave a bottle of water heating in the warmer til he wakes and then we have a tin of formula in his room so we don't have to go anywhere. Ever since we started doing this our life has been so much easier and no need to worry about heating bottles up in the microwave etc and getting the temp wrong. You obviously can't leave milk in the warmer for more than a few minutes but water is no problem.
