Can anyone tell me how early one has to book in there? I am booked in at St Vincents Toowoomba but have just recently found out i'm high risk again, should bub have to be born very early or is ver anemic then chances are I will have to have him at the Mater, I don't want the public section, didn't pay health insurance this past year just to have to go public again! I am already 21wks and will have to go the the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit at the Mater for monitoring as soon as my OB organises it.
From others who have my condition or similar have said they needed NICU and not just special care nursery, St Vincents only has level2 Special care, whereas I may need high level NICU which I think only Mater provides.
Hopefully all will still work out fine as did with DS2 (born 37wks healthy), but I need to be prepared for worst case scenarios too.

Also does the Mater private have bath tubs in delivery, I hope so, I want a bath....lol....any other info would be great too

TIA

I was supposed to have bub at Mater Mothers Private - didn't end up that way for too long a story to go into here but....
Did all my anti natal classes there and didn't see any bath's in the delivery rooms/suites there were showers in all. The mater is building a new maternity section due for open in 2008 so they aren't doing much refurbishment in the meantime so although the best "medical' care not the flashest of accom etc.
I would ask your OB to help get you booked in as you are so far along. I booked in at about 10 weeks.
Good luck - we looked like needing special care bed for bub but in the end didn't need it - Mater was too full - (only have limited resources available in special care unit) - on the day OB decided to whip him out so were moved on to Wesley.
