I was hoping to have a vbac with DD2. It ended up that my waters broke at 34 weeks but I never actually went into labour. the OB said that they could have induced and given a vbac a go, except that my waters had broken. one method of induction is ok for a vbac, but not if your waters are broken. the other was ok if your waters are broken, but not for a vbac. so I missed out. :gloomy:

have you talked to your ob about your options?

It is much too dangerous to be chemically induced for a vbac. I don't know of an OB who would do it, which is a good thing cause it would more than likely lead to a repeat c/s anyway.

What have you tried naturally to do?

I was induced with DS2 at 41+5 weeks. They broke my waters and put me on the drip. They can't use the gel with VBAC's as they can't control it, that is what they told me.

I laboured for about 14 hours but didn't dilate. I started at 2 cm and after 14 hours i was still only 2 cm so i had another C/S.

Why won't your OB induce you?

I agree .. most OBs will not do it ..

I talked to TWO OBs about my last pregnancy (as my body got the first birth SO wrong .. ) and they both told me that the gel and the (syntocin??) drip would be out of the question .. its simply too risky to MAKE the uterus contract .. when it doesn't 'want' to .. and you increase the risk of rupture ... (the main reason I DIDN"T demand a vbac .. was that I am petrified of rupture .. yes yes .. I know the risk is petty .. but tis still a RISK .. and I felt that the c-seciton would be more controlled and safe .. )

I was told that if I went over .. the best option .. (rather than risk the baby ) would be the repeat c-section (which I ended up booking in anyway .. ) ..

the other thing to note .. and that VBACs are wonderful to try for .. but OBs will usually read your birth history .. and observe you closely during labour - my OB said that if I went for a VBAC .. he would observe me for three or so hours - if I wasn't diliating (which I didn't do last time) and wasn't regularly contracting (didn't do that either last time) .. then he would'nt risk a second baby getting distressed ..

make sure you chat to staff about EXACTLY what will happen .. and how long they advise you to try for .. :hugs: nothing worse than being in LABOUR .. and staff informing you THEN of the risks ..

i had an induced VBAC for DD2, they first broke my waters, nothing happened so they started my contraction with hormones - there was only one doctor who would do this for me so i was fortunate to be under his care.. i was monitored the who time which wasn't the most ideal way to be labouring but i was happy just to be labouring.

labour lasted 9hrs, VBAC was a success:)

i had to fight hard to get induced cause they just wanted to give me another c-section,
i would suggest if you really want a vbac find someone who will support you and give you a go at it.

I had an induced VBAC with my twins and with baby #5, both times my water was broken and then the Synto drip started. No problems with either of them.
My first son was a c/sect, second was spontaneous VBAC, third and fourth pregnancies were induced.

BlessedWithBlue - where in SA did you have your induced VBAC's? I'm not preggers (nor any time soon!) but my OB has already said that he will help me with a VBAC next time. I didn't ask about induction though. I went to 41 weeks and the induction didn't work very well. What hospital where you at?

Yes I was induced as labour was not progressing. Started on a very low amount and was increased when they thought it was necessary(aka when it was not progressing fast enough to their liking). Reached full dialation but baby still head high. Attempted a few pushes but he wasn't budging. Had to have another caesarean. Everyone's different.;)

I actually had a repeat c/s with DS after an elective c/s with DD, but for a while there, there was talk of induction. Well, not an induction per se, so much as an augmentation to get my contractions to be more productive!!

Breaking my waters to induce was not an option, as my waters had already broken. My OB was happy to give me oxytocin to augment my labour & bring my contractions into a more regular pattern IF MY CERVIX WAS FAVOURABLE. That was the clincher!!

Turned out it wasn't though, so we requested a c/s, although my OB was happy to wait longer (I just couldn't do it any more!)

Your best bet for a VBAC is to go into spontaneous labour and not to let anyone intervene at all. If you are interested I can put you in touch with lots of women who have VBAC'd after both one and two sections. PM me if you want more information.
