View Full Version : Tight foreskin
My son is almost 7 months old and is currently no circ.
It has just got me thinking lately as a GF said that at her sons 6 month check up, they told her that her son had a tight forskin when they tried to retract it.
This got me thinking/worried, so I was looking at my sons, and his also seems quite tight, and I can not retract it one bit.
At first I was a little shocked as I didnt think they should even be able to retract at this age.
Can you shed some light, and should they be able to retract at this age?
Should I get my sons looked at, or is it perfectly normal for it to be tight at this age?
Thanks heaps :)

Why would they try retract it at such a young age? DS foreskin was always tight, i never touched it, although he did have to have a catheter at 3 months old but apart from that i havent touched it since, either has a GP
He started to play with it around 2-3ish years old and well come shower time or bath time he would pull it back. Not that i am allowed to look at it that often but his foreskin doesnt seem as tight now.
I was always told not to touch from a few gps and never pull it back not sure what others were told to do but they did say it was quiet normal and they would do it when it was the right time, its not meant to be pulled back at such a young age, if that makes sense.

I think that maybe your GF might have misunderstood, or the doctor was looking for something else?
My son is 6. Apart from a zipper accident a while ago, my GP has never "looked" at it, and even the MCH hardly gave it a look. The only thing thats ever been checked is his testes - but he had hernia problems as a bub.
The foreskin doesnt retract or need to be retracted until sfter 3 ish and then should be able to be retracted by the age of four.
I would leave nature alone to do it's thing unless you are considereing C'd it - and that's a different discussion

omg - They should never had tried to retract it.....that is terrible to hear. i wonder what they were thinking?? my DS is nearly 4 and no one has ever fiddled with his penis, nor would i be expecting it to retract yet.
you need to read Apprentice Mumma's post on phimosis.....can't remember which section its in. but its around here somewhere. quite informative and will put your mind completely at ease.
next time someone tries to retract your baby's penis, tell them to 'buzz off'.

DS1 who is turning 4yo in 9 days is still unable to retract his foreskin. I have had one GP say that it MIGHT be a problem later on but to leave well enough alone as when he is older he will be able to retract it himself at a comfortable pace.
Im confused as to why your friends 6mo bub has someone trying to retract it. That can cause damage to it. It has a purpose being there.

Please read through this thread: Phimosis? Foreskin Development & Normal Age for Retraction (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=70500) and STOP trying to manipulate/retract your young son's foreskin. He's normal, normal, normal! (((hugs)))
