View Full Version : Is it okay to take Maca once pregnant?
Hi there,
I bought some Maca root the other day to start taking and I was told by the herbalist that I should stop taking it if I fall pregnant. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Yes i think that is true, i don,t take it but i know when i was looking into taking it myself i was told that too.... Best of luck are you taking anything else????
Thanks for that. I assume then that you shouldn't really take it once you have ovulated as you could be pregnant. Doesn't seem to be worth it based on that.
And yes, I am taking a prenatal vitamin twice a day, fish oil capsules and folate. Between my husband and I with the amount of vitamins we are taking to get pregnant it's scary. I just hope they work as they are so expensive.

I actually know of some women who stayed on during pregnancy to help with morning sickness, etc, so I dont know. I dont know what about it would cause problems, as its a food, and as far as my research has shown, does not pose any threat to the baby. BUT, I guess better safe than sorry...I will still take it after o'ing tho as you need to take it throughout your cycle to start seeing some benefits. Sorry Im not much help! Good luck! :)
the first five or so weeks of pregnancy the baby is using the yolk to survive??(isn't it/?) until LATER in the pregnancy .. when the placenta is formed????
I would think most things are safe to take .. till the placenta is used - since it would be more easily transfered through the placenta???

Just wanted to say that if you google maca during pregnancy, you get quite a bit of info. It seems there is conflicting info out there, but read up on what you can and make an informed decision. There are studies that have shown taking maca throughout pregnancy has helped with birth weight, etc...so I would read up on it! :)

i stopped taking it at about 8 weeks preg - i was told not to use it after about 10weeks.. cos it can help you to not miscarry... as it regulates hormones
