View Full Version : Moving older bub to own room & new cot
Hi,
My DS is 7 mo and has always slept in a porta-cot in our bedroom (it wasn't the orig plan - just happened). Now that he is starting to move around a bit, we (DP) have decided that it is (almost) time to go to his proper cot in his own room. Any tips or advice on how to go about this? He has only been in his big cot for play.

Have you just tried doing it?
My DD is nearly 8 months and has only recently moved into her own room...and it's worked very well. It takes me a little longer to get up for her in the mornings (because it's harder to hear her now), but she seems to sleep sounder than she did when in our room.
If he doesn't take to it well, maybe it might be a nice idea to try it out during the day, if he has day naps. Otherwise, maybe it would be good to have the cot in your room for a while, and THEN move him to the other room. Just so it's not two new concepts at once. Also make sure the cot base is at the lowest level (because if he's not pulling up yet...he will soon!).
Good luck!
I agree with sassymummy to let him try it out during the day for his daytime nap so he gets use to sleeping in the room and the cot and them put him in there at night time later on.
Goodluck with it all

good luck. we are doing this right now as well. Brooke has all her day naps in the cot and I put her to bed in the cot with the baby monitor on at night .. though I can't seem to leave her there all night .. silly - I keep bringing her in bed with us  will eventually do it right soon.
