Hi,
I would be so grateful if anyone had recommendations for a good home based childcare worker in Toowoomba. Either a family day care set-up, or a carer who could come to our home to look after for my 18mth son during the day and our 5 &1/2 yr old son before and after school. My youngest son has just experienced a shocking first week in a local childcare!!! We are new to Toowoomba and don't yet have a network to sound this out with.

Thank you for your reply Leilz,
Unfortunately, Gatton is too far away. But best of luck with your new family day care business :)

I've (or rather my son) had some shocking exeriences of neglect and bullying in at least two childcare centres in toowoomba. My son was even poisoned in one of the playgrounds!! My children will never attend ANY of these centres again (chains). I have also sat there and heard parents tell workers there kids are sick but they have to go to work... and the centre accepts the kids instead of refusing them for the safety of the rest of the kids!!

I have found A Country Garden to be great though (although that is a centre too... it's family owned and operated with passion and results!)! The also do pickup and drop off for before and after school care.

We have also used Kath ****son family daycare... as far as I know, thats the only family daycare service in Toowoomba. My sons first carer was lovely... although I was a bit worried about supervision at times... but the second was a shocker!! I reported her!

I think it's a matter of who they have in your area at the time you ask for care... and whether or not you like her when you meet her and how satisfied you are with the level of ongoing care.

You don't have to accept the first person they set you up with. In fact I refused to send my son to one they sent us too... she was a control freak!

It is very difficult to find someone you are happy with.... the best I have found would probably have been the first daycare mum (cos she only had 4 kids at the time and that lovely famliy environment) or A Country Garden.

Hope that helps some...
