My 15 month old has recently started slapping and pinching me on the face!!! I read an article in a mag that gave a suggestion on how to deal with this. Basically you tell them that it hurts mummy and then show them how to touch you gently. I have been doing this and she now knows how to gently stroke my face however the gentle touch is occasionally followed by a slap...ouch. I don't hit or pinch her back as the article also mentioned that at this age she will not understand cause & effect and will only know that you have hurt her... and to be quite honest I wouldn't feel right doing it back to her. She has now slapped another child (approx 3 y/o) at Day care. Please help as I don't want my dd getting expelled!!!!

Apparently the key is to not show them how to touch you gently after they have been rough with you, but to do it at a time when it is not relating to the actual behaviour you are trying to stop. It seems like you are doing well quite quickly... Just keep apologising to the other child care mums until she gets over it :)
Good Luck :)

Thanks so much for your advice. She still slaps me but only very occasionally now but the pinching seems to have stopped completely. Maybe it's just a faze but i really was at my wits end for a while there on what to do.

My son when through a similar faze when he was around that age,
The way I dealt with it was every time he did it I would completely ignore him, no matter where we were or what we where doing I would just walk away from him, turn my back or put him down if I was holding him.
He soon learnt very quickly that the behaviour wasnt getting him any reaction from me so he stopped....it took a while but it did stop:)
Im so glad to hear you are both doing well!!!
MY son gets bitten every now and then at day care and to tell you the truth I dont really mind as I know its just a devlopmental stage the children are going through, besides my son isnt an angel either and will push other children when playing sometimes etc,
It is embarrassing when his teachers tell me he has pushed a child but all I can do is apologise and make sure i discipline my child when I see him engaging in negetive behaviour.
