Hi, just after some reassurance, my 15 month old has quite a big gap in her top two teeth. She has 8 so far (4 top and 4 bottom) and think her molars are coming through. I'm hoping when she gets all her teeth the top one's will move closer together. Does anyone know if that is likely???

Maybe, but also remember that these are just her baby teeth, and when she gets her adult teeth they may well come through differently.

My DD1 had a gap until all her teeth came through, it is now gone.
I had a gap until my adult teeth cam through but I never had any issues about having enough space for my teeth either.
Apparently they say having a gap in your teeth means you will be wealthy!

From my limited understanding the teeth beside the two front teeth (I think they're the ones you're talking about?) are pushed together by the teeth that come down on either side.
I was actually born without the teeth either side of my front teeth and therefore could fit a pencil through for the entirety of my childhood/adolescence until I could afford braces/surgery :)
I too have heard this means you'll be wealthy. :detective: hmmm where's my moolah? :D
A gap between the teeth is actualy hereditery. My DD has a gap, DH had a gap ( before braces) and his mum has a gap. It was actual one of the first things the midwife said after she was born, that she would have a gap between her 2 front teeth. You could see there was a gap in her gums.
If you didn't notice the gap in her gums before she got teeth it will probebly mean that the gap will close when she gets her full set of teeth.
My daughter had a large gap in her 2 front teeth, then they fell out and she got her adult teeth and theyre perfectly straight, no gap

DH has a gap still, I had a gap and it closed when i got my adult ones, and DD1 has a gap at the moment. So i don't know whether she'll keep it or not? DD2 also looks like she'll have a gap. I'd say they'll both keep the gap, going on the theory that if there was a gap when they were born, as they both did.
I took my 3yr old to the dentist a couple of months ago and one of my concerns was the gap in his front teeth. The dentist said that it is good to have a gap because it means there is lots of room for their adult teeth.
Hopes this helps!

I had a big gap myself when I was a kid, I used to have to be careful with my fork as the tines would sometimes get stuck! But now my front teeth are so close together its even hard to get floss in there! I can't recall exactly when they got closer together, but it was definitely some time before I started high school.
Like the queen says, they are deciduous baby teeth.
Don't get stressed until later on when all of the permanent teeth are through, excluding wisdom teeth, so at about 12 years old. Naturally the teeth move towards the centre of your mouth, so even a child may have a gap that may eventually correct itself.
You don't need to go making any orthodontic appointments just yet!
1 person in each generation in my family has a gap in their front teeth - me in included! From my perspective - if you can drive a truck through it, maybe you can worry a little - but id choose something better to worry on! - the gap is cute! Ive never cared about my gap - think it is very individual, and have favourable comments every day of my life - cause i smile so much!
I have seen many a young un come into my work with baby teeth and a gap between all their teeth - dont worry - they fill.

Just today I was looking at photos at 1yo (now 2) and had forgotten about the gap that he had in front teeth. They seem to have grown together as he has got the rest of his teeth.

Thanks everyone - I know I am just worrying about nothing and even if she has a gap it won't change her beautiful face or personality. Just worrying over nothing and thanks again for your reassurance.

My girl had a gap when her teeth first came through and I actually hated them - I wanted her toothless grin back - but I slowly got used to it and after more teeth came the gap closed. Now she has the cutest grin ever - okay so I am bias :)

my DS is turning 1 on tuesday and his teeth seem to be coming in crooked but we arent going to worry until he is a bit older and has all his teeth :) coz they might fix themselves. he has 6 teeth with about 3 coming through. 3 on top and 3 on bottom.

LMAO:laughing:
I have a big gap in my teeth to Neaby and I am no where near rich!!! People used to tell me that when I was little to make me feel better! I have learnt to live with it now, mines not that noticible anyway.
Dont worry about your babys gap, they are just keeping room for the bigger teeth! Just think there is lots of room so u wont have to fork out for braces later on!!:smiliedance:

Hi there,
Spaces between the front 8 baby teeth are a good thing - it means that the adult teeth are less likely to suffer crowding.
Cheers,
