Hi everyone,

Haven't posted for a coupld of weeks. Been having lots of morning sickness at all times of the day. My hb took me away for the weekend for our 1st anniversary which was on sunday we went up to sunshine coast hinterland and i was sick for most of the time we were up there. I have also have been having alot of growing pains and feeling so exhausted even though i rest i don't feel any better. I am coming home from work and going straight to bed. I hope this does not last for much longer.

How often do you go for a check up at the doctors. My dr was very vague and told me to come back in a month. Is this normal ? This is my first baby and dr didn't give me much information on check ups etc.......

Hi Brooksy

So sorry to hear you are sick I can soooo relate. Try icy things such as slurpees, frozen cokes, icy poles. Temporary relief but it does help. Once a month checkups are pretty much normal then it is fortnightly from about 28 weeks and then weekly from about 35 weeks from memory. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Hi. It's really not much fun is it. I found that chewing gum helped the nausea heaps (wierd, I know). I found that if I burped, some of the nausea would go away. Mylanta tablets were also helpful.

Some days I was so tired I couldn't even dry my hair after my shower. My hubby would dry it for me (not very well, but he tried) and would put my shoes and socks on. I felt so useless, but when it passes it's really good. Such a relief.

Hope you feel better soon.

:o Definitely remember that feeling of awful nausea. You poor thing. Cordial in a drink bottle that you just keep drinking from was the only thing i could keep down until about 18 weeks (but that is a bit longer than usual). This worked to keep my fluids up. My Doctor said extra sleep and trying to lessen stress helps as well

Once a month visits with your Dr goes until 28 weeks then fortnightly until 36 weeks and then weekly until the birth. If you have questions or anything I find the pregancy hotlines in the phone book very understanding and helpful. Plus it might be worth borrowing or buying "Up the duff" and "What to expect when expecting" at least you can search for answers and know that others have gone through it.

They say morning sickness is a great sign! Not very reassuring.

I used accupressure bands from the chemist (might be called sea sickness bands) stopped me throwing up so much, from 5 times to once a day, which helped. Bananas too if you can stand them.

Hope this helps

Hang in there, hopefully it will pass for you. I had morning (all day) sickness till 21 weeks- never thought it would end. Like Wattle, chewing gum was a my saviour, I chewed SO much that the thought of having chewing gum now still makes me feel like heaving!!! I constantly ate all day and all night. I'd be at the fridge at 3am eating to make me feel better.

I went through public birth centre, monthly visits till 32 weeks, fortnightly till 38 weeks, weekly for the rest. Basically if all was going well they did not want to see me as often as usual, if I felt there was a prob I could ring and go in.

Hope you find something that gives you temporary relief
good luck

yeah, I went for my 24 week check-up yesterday and the schedule has now changed... This is with the hospital in Caboolture (It could be different at different hospitals)... 12 weeks, 20 weeks, 28 weeks, 31 weeks, 34 weeks, 36 weeks, 38 weeks and 40 weeks... This also differs if you are a high risk patient... Mind you I always had checkups with my GP in between, especially if you feel there is something wrong or you just need re-assurance... Hope this helps :)

I do feel sorry for you. I am just on 18 weeks pregnant and my ALL DAY sickness only ended a week ago! I felt like it was never going to end and i got very down about it...but the good news it that most of the time it does end and when it does its the best feeling in the world. I couldnt keep anything down and nothing made me feel better. Keep you fluids up - sleep as much as you can and fingers crossed it will get better. They say its good when you are sick because that means your hormone levels are high which means the baby is growing and healthy..so i have been told. So be happy and i hope it passess for you soon.... :)

Hi Brooksy,

I'm having my first too (now 19 wks) and can relate to how you're feeling. Different foods help different people, I ate alot, all the time, crackers, lemonade, carbs (potato, rice etc) and chocolate helped my nausea. I also slept alot until approx 13 wks but am back to normal sleeping patterns now.

It will get better, hang in there.

At your next dr visit you will prob get a referral to register with a hospital, then when you register they will prob post you a whole heap of info and it all starts to become clearer. Let me know if you'd like any more info (I'm registered with Mater Brissie).

Take care and put your feet up,
Mea.

Wow, I can almost say to you word-for-word what mea just said!! I was also exhausted until about 13 wks, just couldn't get enough sleep. Then suddenly, the nausea and the tiredness stopped. I also drank a lot of peppermint and chamomile tea with heaps of honey and/or sugar, that helped, as well as eating anything and everything I could (healthy stuff like boiled eggs, or crackers with vegemite, no junk food, though occasionally chocolate). However the non-stop eating continued all through my pregnancy, so much so that my boss used to joke that he was going to buy me a feed bag!!! Just do whatever helps, and know it will pass eventually...
Brooksy, get yourself a good pregnancy book, I bought "What to expect when you're expecting", I constantly referred to it throughout my pregnancy, it explains so much that might worry you. Also visit your local library, so much cheaper than buying books and they usually have a good variety too. Cheerio!!
