Hi everyone,

Just be careful when taking Asprin and TTC.

I have missed my period this month, after having pregnancy symptoms earlier on, and now nothing. My naturopath thinks that after taking lots of Asprin for a cold that I had a few weeks ago, could have temporarily changed the lining of my uterus, making implantiation difficult.

I am talking a lot of asprin though, for example 3 per day for 1-2 weeks. So just be aware.

What is the dosage you can have if you already have conceived?

Don't know sorry. I don't think having one or two for a headache would be a problem, but please just ask the gp first.

I'm pretty sure that Aspirin is a "no no" during pregnancy as well.. iirc.

Here's what birth.com.au says..

Aspirin. Unless prescribed by your doctor, aspirin is not recommended during pregnancy. This is because it can interfere with the normal blood clotting mechanisms in the body (up to 5 days after stopping its use). The odd aspirin occasionally may not cause a problem, but taking them regularly can. Also, aspirin taken during the early weeks of pregnancy has been associated with birth defects. If anything, caregivers will tend to favour paracetamol. Aspirin should also be avoided when breastfeeding.

So stick of the Aspirin TTCers!!!!!

Thank you for letting us know.

Bambino, I dont think Asprin is safe if you have concieved. It thins your blood out. I didnt take it at all whilst pregnant.

Paracetamol is perfectly safe though. :)

ok :o

Paracetamol it is then. I do suffer headaches quite a bit but maybe I will have to learn to stay clear of pain killers alltogether.

This is a question I asked my doctors years ago and he said that asprin is a no no. When ttc and while your pregnant it can causes miscarriages/stillborn. Paracetamol such as (panadol and heron) is perfectly safe. :)

Just to let you know that I was taking low dose asprin daily, on medical advise after my tranfer for IVF. I took it for about two months after conception also.. this had no effect on my baby or my pregnancy.

Not saying it's ok, but it's not *all* doom and gloom if you have taken it.

I agree Tash, but according to my dr, using it in IVF is common, and is also ok, due to the other hormones that mums are on. It has a different purpose.

Just thought you guys might be interested to know that there were recent studies done to show that half an aspirin a day was actually beneficial when TTC or in early pregnancy. It was especially helpful for women who suffered miscarriages. As Tash said she used it for IVF thats because for some reason the aspirin responds differently when in a small amount with the body. Tis amazing really they are finding more & more uses for the humble ol' aspirin !
So just be careful & wise :D
