Holiday tips/advice - Help?

Hi, in March I am taking my 2 year old and 6 month old on an interstate holiday. We are going by plane (after a 4 hour drive to the airport) so it is important for me to pack relatively light and be able to keep them amused. Does anyone out there have any advice or tips for holiday & travel???

Balloons. Put a few in your purse or carry on for instant games at departure gates. Even better with a bit of string or ribbon. For the 6 month old you can lessen the risk of them popping by overinflating them, and then letting some air back out. It sort of overstretches the rubber.
