For all those in the Yarra Plenty Region looking for stuff to do with kids... check out the library's kids page: http://www.yprl.vic.gov.au/kids/categories.html
The Tumblebooks link gives you access to hundreds of e-books that are read out loud with the corresponding words highlighted as it goes, and animated illustrations. Nice for a rainy day and saves money on buying books. The software being used is easy enough for a kinder kid to probably use. Books are rated according to age or school grade, school gradings in Canada are similar to here. Most books are rated kindy and up, but my 2 year old DD would love watching this too.
The Tumblebooks site is based in Ontario Canada, so may not be many Australian authors but check out Robert Munsch, one of my favorites.
The Tumblebooks site is subscriber only, you're accessing via the libraries subscription. So you may have to always go through their link to get it to work.
