View Full Version : Will they be able to hear bubs heartbeat today?
Hi all....
I am 8 weeks and 4 days.... I am going for my first hospital visit today :smiliedance:
I am SOOO eager to know that its all well and healthy in there - is it too early for them to hear the heartbeat through the doppler?
I never went to the hospital visit this early with my last 2 (was very slack in getting an appointment!)
Anyways..... what are people's thoughts or experiences?

HI Manz
I never had an early scan with my first two, but had one this time- but considerably earlier than yours - I was 6wks 1day according to them.
They couldn't hear the heartbeat, but he could see it (I couldn't).
You will see it, not sure of hearing it though.
Good luck, and let us know how you go - how exciting!
Cass
Thanks Cass....
I'm not having a scan - well I dont think so?.... Just the first hospital appointment with the Midwife - the LOONG one with the million questions!
i think last pregnancy, the dr didn't even attempt to do the doppler heart sound before 10 weeks. she said mums to be get too anxious if they can't hear it before then. i think the 10 week mark is when you can start to hear it well.:bee:

They probably wont listen for it.
Though I had a threatened miscarriage and they could hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks. It is possible in other words.

If they can then great if they can't then don't be concerned. :) It is very early days.
One of the reasons I am conservative with tests/scans etc. is because it leaves mum feeling very anxious at times and can leave us feeling more worried and unsure than before.
I am happy to wait until much later to start finding a heartbeat, I know in my heart my baby is fine.

Thanks for that!
I know its only early, but I am sooo excited about being pregnant again - just so keen to experience the bub moving etc...
I'm not getting the 12 wk scan either, we have always just waited til the 18 week one.... But, I was just hoping that if they used the doppler today that I could hear its little heart.... just because.. LOL :)

Oh I understand :)
It's fun and reassuring except when they can't rind it of course.
Hopefully you don't come out worried that they didn't find it.

It's a bit early for the doppler - even at 10-12 weeks it can be realllly tricky. I'd be surprised if they try because they know it will only make you nervy if they can't find it.
I think I was about 15 weeks the first time they tried the doppler on me. But I hired one at home and I first found it myself at 12 weeks but it was tricky.
Good luck today though I hope everything is well!

I have just come back from my hosp. appt...
She had an U/s machine in there, but wasn't keen to do it as the bub is so low & deep - but cause she knew how eager I was to see the little one, she has given me a referal to have a "dating scan" - :smiliedance:
