Hi, Ive just been reading all your posts on the soy, and hoped maybe you could help me out, I have a 4 month old boy (3rd child), and from the first few days i knew something was wrong by the way he kept throwing up, the drs said i was silly. Once home from hospital i took matters into my own hands and put him on the s26 reflux formula( i had used this with my daughter and it worked great). Still no improvement. I got a referral and saw a paed and he was a jerk and made me look stupid, said there was no cure he will grow out of it, dont make a big deal out of it. I should mention that he throws up, with every bottle, and in between bottles, basically all day. He is putting on weight though and developing.
Now in the last 2 weeks he is breaking out in exczma. Its all over him, very red and angry looking. (my other son, suffered with it, but not to this extent). I saw my sisters dietican on the weekend and showed her, she said put him on soy, its an allergic or intolerance ( yes i have tried lactose free and he screamed with it). She said try for 8 days and if no improvement she will get a script formula to try. He has been on karicare soy formula for 2 days, no change in his skin yet, but he screams all day (he is usually content and happy), and he seems hungry but only drinks about 70ml at a time and wants a bottle every 1.5 hrs(except at night, thank god ).
Please help me, is this a normal reaction to soy, what should i do, im so sad for him i want to cry for him, his skin is red raw, and hes unhappy:crying:

I don't know the answers to your question - but I've put your post in a thread of its own, because I think you'll get more answers that way :)

Take him off it hun.... It's so very common for babies that have an allergy to Cow's based formula to also have a reaction to soy...
Get bub's to your dietician ASAP or even ring her and get a script organised... I have no doubt in my mind that you will see a happier content baby....
Tam-I-am mentioned that Neocate (one that is most prescribed)has a distinctive taste... This is true however paediatricians recommend putting a few drops of vanilla essence in to take the taste away... Once they are taking the neocate ok you can decrease the vanilla and then stop it.... It works well in most cases i assure you....

Good Luck...

:iagree:

Please please please also try & find a good paed.

I know its hard when you have so many putting you down ! I had it from day dot too only my LC was the one helping me out it was so frustrating !

I have finally found a good paed & seriously he is worth his weight in gold yes sometimes i have to be pushy but he is ok with that & you know what so he should be he works for me & my baby !!!

If you start a thread on here asking for a paed in your area you are bound to find someone decent !

Good luck :hugs:

Find yourself a better paed............... You need to talk to a good doctor, sounds like u need Neocate!! My DD is on Elecare, which is basically the same, it just tastes better!!! If u live near a childrens hospital, go there, usually the local hospitals have no idea, If u only have a local hospital, go there but ask specifically to see a paed or a paed registar, sometimes adult doctors overlook stuff!!!!

It's positive he is gaining weight so probably the reflux should be grown out of, but I would of though they would prescribe something to ensure acid burn wouldn't become a problem??!!

God luck

Hi there,

As other posters have said find a better paed. As for growing out of reflux, we were told that with DS, so I got a referral to a paed gastro. He's 13 months and still hasnt grown out of the reflux. He also wouldnt have been put on meds if we hadnt changed doctors.

He also put on weight but that doesnt mean the reflux shouldnt be taken seriously.

We've also just discovered he is cows milk protein intolerant and probably soy milk as well. His reaction to soy milk sounds similar to your DS, he was screamy, cranky and unhappy and we only tried for 2 days.

We have just seen a paed dietitian today, and she said you should know if something is causing a reaction in 3 days. She said that can be via vomitting, diarrhea, eczema and mood - if they react you are better off removing it.
