Hi,
Well, silly me told my Mother yesterday that I will cook a few slices for my Dad's 60th and Brothers 21st combined birthday this saturday.

My family are renowned cooks (and eaters), and this being my first time to cook for them without mothers supervision, I want to impress.

So this is a callout for

Your scrumptious, but not too pretentious slice recipes!:chef:

I always find simplicity is the key, so no over the top things, I have also just gone back to work, so I don't want to be rushing around town trying to find eye of newt or something!

TIA! :D Nomsie

I have a recipe that my MIL makes. It's kinda like a caramel slice on a biscuit base with a coconut top (similar to that on strwaberry shortcake).

Let me know if you want that one.

Zucchini sllice is just as nice :D

2 grated zucchini's
1 medium carrot grated
1 cup of mozarella cheese
1 cup of self raising flour - sifted
5 eggs - lightly beaten (add salt & pepper to taste)
I onion diced (cook for a few minutes)

Combine zucchini, carrot, cheese, onion in a bowl, sift the SR flour in. Add eggs. Combine all ingredients

I use a pyrex casserole dish (easier lined with baking paper). Bake at 180deg for approx 40-45 mins. (longer if needed- pending on your oven!)

I also added diced tomatoes the other day and it was a hit!

Bon appetit!:chef:

This one knocked me over when I had it. It's sinfully delicious.

Only takes about 10 mins to make too!

Easy Caramel Slice

1 large pkt Scotch finger biscuits
2 tins caramel top n fill (next to the condensed milk in the supermarket)
1 carton double cream
lots of grated chocolate. 1 50g bar.

Leave biscuits to stale slightly (or dip them in baileys, Frangelico is pretty good too)
Line Lamington tin with baking paper
line bottom with dipped biscuits
Top with both tins of caramel
Spread double cream on top
sprinkle with grated chocolate.

This is one of the best caramel slices I have ever tasted!

MARS BAR SLICE!

4 mars bars
a block of cooking choc
3 cups of rice bubbles

melt the bars bars slowly in a bowl over a boiling pot, once melted, add rice bubbles...stir through.
Press into a slice dish.
Melt chocolate and drizzle over top. Put in fridge to set...EASY!!!

OR

PASTA-BACON AND EGG SLICE

2 packets of Continental pasta packs- I use carbonara or alfredo
3 eggs
4 rashers of bacon

Cook the pasta according to packs. Line a dish with the cooked pasta.
Fry off some diced bacon- You could even use readily chopped form deli.
Mix bacon with some eggs. Whisk it slightly.
Pour over the top of pasta base.
Put in oven until the egg is springy then serve or place in fridge to eat cold- yummy either way.

You could also add salta nd pepper to taste or place sliced tomato on top for taste and presentation.

Good Luck!!

here are some others that have always been popular-
and are really easy too!

Choc Mint Rolls

1 pkt Malt biscuits, crushed- (I blitz them in the food processor)
2 tablespoons of cocoa
1 tin of condensed milk
1 pkt of Crown Mints, chopped- (I wrap them in a tea towel and beat them with a meat tenderiser, have heard of people running over them with the car! You need to have really small pieces)

Mix all the ingredients together and roll in to logs. I then roll them in a bit of coconut and leave to set in the fridge. When they are set slice diagonally in to bite size pieces.

Apricot Balls

1 pkt of dried apricots(I think this would be about 250 gms- it's not a huge pkt) finely chopped, I do this in the food processor
1 cup of coconut
1 cup of crushed biscuits, again I do this in food processor
1 tin of condensed milk

Mix all together and form into small, 1 or 2 bite size, balls. Then roll them in coconut. Keep them in the fridge

Here are a few ideas for you for savoury

Zucchini Slice

375g grated zucchini
1 large onion, finely chopped
3 rashers of finely chipped bacon
1 cup grated cheese
1 cup self raising flour
½ cup canola oil
5 eggs
Salt and pepper.

1. Combine zucchini, onion, bacon, cheese and sifted flour
2. Mix in the oil and eggs and season with salt and pepper
3. Pour into a well greased lamington tin or similar and bake in moderate oven for 30 - 40 minutes or until brown.

Or you can make a sort of quiche slice
line a tin with puff pastry.
Then wisk together some eggs and cream/milk
Add in your choice of ham, chicken, cheese, any veg olives, tomatoes (fresh or sundried), spinache, pre-cooked pumpkin, feta, broccoli, your choices are limited only by your imagination.
Pour into the pastry base and bake.
When its cooked you can slice into squares.

Or, while technically not a slice, you could do pastry scrolls.
You get a sheet of puff pastry, and put your toppings on. Then you roll up and slice so you get little scrolled up circles. Brush with egg/milk mix and bake til browned.
Always a hit. Try putting sausage mixture in the middle to make a fancy version of sausage rolls.

Chocolate Crunchie Slice :goodvibes:

200g plain arrowroot biscuits, crushed
1/2 cup coconut
2 Violet Crumble bars or Crunchie Bars, crushed
1 can condensed milk
200g block milk chocolate, melted

In a bowl, mix together the crushed biscuits, coconut, condensed milk and crushed Violet Crumble bars.
When well combined, press into lined slice tray.
Spread melted chocolate over the top.
When par-set, cut slice into portions.

It's easier to slice when the chocolate isn't set hard.

Hi,
I always find simplicity is the key, so no over the top things, I have also just gone back to work, so I don't want to be rushing around town trying to find eye of newt or something!

Hey, what's wrong with Eye of Newt slice huh????? :p

Sour cream and apple slice is easy and looks good.

Mix 1 packet vanilla cake mix, 1 cup dessicated coconut and 125g butter (melted) together. Spread into a lamington tin and bake in a 180 degree for 10 mins. Remove from oven and cool.
Spread 1 tin of pie apples/3 chopped and steamed apple pieces over base and sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon and sugar.
Beat 1 egg, add 1 sm carton of sour cream and combine well. Spread over apple mixture and sprinkle top with cinnamon & sugar to decorate. Place in refridgerator to set.

Vanilla slice made with 2 sheets of puff pastry, your own special custard and icing on top always goes down well too.
