I'm expecting #2 in a few weeks and have not equipped myself with maternity bras yet. The reason I've delayed this purchase is that with #1, I wasn't able to breast feed successfully. I bought bras then and was annoyed by the fact that I'd invested in something I had no need for. I can't use the old ones now as I've changed shape too much.

So my question is, should I think positive and hope breast feeding goes well this time round and get the bras now, or should I wait until I've had a few good weeks with the new baby before investing again?

Also, which brands do people prefer?

Z.

Hi Ziggi
I love the Elle Macpherson maternity bra, the only one I could undo and do up with one hand (while the other was busy with a squirmy, hungry bub). I think they only come in lilac and BLACK :D . (for my second pg, I treated myself to a black maternity bra! - they are expensive though).

You might be able to get through the first few weeks with a stretchy gym type bra, but it won't be really supportive for those milk-just-in breasts.

Cheers

I love the triumph range, bought a cheaper version at kmart but my fave is style #189 (bout $45), its not so maternity bra looking. I have to say though, when i was fitted pre-birth i was estimated to be a D cup, I had to go and buy B cups at about 4 weeks as the D was huge and by breasts had settled. Bit annoying cause they are so expensive.

As xkwzit reccomended gym/crop tops do the job so maybe you could get by with just one maternity bra till you see how things pan out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see how the process goes and look out for the recommended brands when required.

I too recommend the Elle MacPherson bra. Really supportive which is what I was after as I'm currently an E cup and a lot of the other ones I tried on made me look like a Jersey cow (huge)! Expensive though, I think $60 but I know I've definitely gotten my monies worth.

I loved the Elle McPherson bras. They come in lilac, black, beige and an icy blue. They are a bit expensive, but I figure I will use them for the second bub as well.

I love the new lovable maternity bras. they look and feel a bit like those t-shirt bras and that's great with breast pads cause you don't get show thru. my boobs are too big for the elle bras and I prefer the individual cups instead (more support). With the tank top, be very careful actually breastfeeding in it, yanking it up and having it sitting across your boobs can cause blocked ducts from the pressure. I was wearing one is hospital and the midwife would make me take if off everytime to breastfeed. The lovable bras come in white, black and a really pretty dark pink. Love 'em! They cost $39.95. Worth it I reckon. And their slogan is Yummy Mummy!! Anything to make us feel like that! And if you're a member of the Australian Breastfeeding ***. and you order thru them (thru Mothers Direct) you get 10% off. Good luck

I absolutely love my loveable bra, it's hot pink and doesn't look granny. Although you pay a little more, triumph are good too. My equal fave with the loveable is the berlie sports maternity. Mighty fine it is. Them boobies don't move in that one! I made the mistake of buying target ones while i was pregnant, first time mum and i didn't know any better then. They're only good for going to bed in. But you wouldn't even think the loveable and berlie ones were maternity when you look at them. Got them at myers. :)

hey there littlelukesmum,
I find the berlie sports absolutelty fantastic. I'm also a c/d cup.(d- cheapies, c- berlie etc). It is convertible, so it can be worn as a cross-over at the back or like normal. So it can be worn under just about anything. Really comfortable.
