Hi there working mummies and daddies.
Im considering looking after a 1yr old full time, aprox 38-42 hrs per week. monday - friday. Just wondering what is the going rate. Ive got a few friends who do this, one is looking after 2yr old twins and gets $550 per/wk. the other looks after 3yr and 7yr and gets $600. Also friend in NZ gets $500 p/w for 2 kids, not sure the ages.
I know that both of those families are on really good money so is no problem for them to pay that.
Do you think $400 is too much. I do alot of child minding and charge $15 per hr, 1 child and $20 per hr 2 kids. However that would mean charging $600 p/w which seams way too much? Esp when they can just put her in day care for $260.

Any thoughs much appreciated

hi, im a childcare worker...well was before keanu was born lol...

i think u should charge more than a centre i guess as you will have one on one time, where as at a centre they wouldn't get that much at all...

i guess just negotiate really?? just ask how much they are willing to pay? than go from there...?

i wud be happy with $260 a week lol, if it was cash in hand...i would just ask and negotiate...

i mean they wud know they have the option of childcare which maybe cheaper...obviously they want a full time carer instead i would assume??

Well it depends if this person is your friend cause that is way to muc to charge to do a favor for a friend...

I would say like 150 for a friend plus they pay for anywhere you take the kid..

Or like 350 for a stranger. not so close person

Id say 50 a day and they supply the childs snacks.

Keep in mind too that at home daycare carers charge 4.20 per hour and 4.60 for lunch.

I would suggest $50/day and they provide nappies, food etc. That to me seems reasonable, esp if its a cash in hand type of situation rather than formal family day care.

I think $50 a day as well.

Thankyou so much everyone. I dont actually know this family, I have been recomended to them. The actual reason im wanting to charge so much is because it would mean cancelling all my other "cash" jobs during the week, so it needs to be worth it.

Think ill just come and as ask what she is willing to pay.

Cheers

Don't forget to put stuff in writing. You need definite starting and finishing times and you should consider charging extra if the child is picked up late (especially if it's unplanned). You will also need an appropriate pram for the child (and your children) and a car seat so you're not stuck at home all day. You will also need nappies, wipes, food, clothes and maybe other stuff supplied. Make sure you work all this out before you start. You also need to decide what is going to happen if the child is sick, or your children (or you) are sick.

It's not as simple as it sounds at first. All the best!

I goto a family day carer and she charges me after $203 pr wk after the CCB and its only $20 or so dearer if I didnt get anything back from the government. take into account the lady wont be able to get the tax benifit at the end if she paid $260 to you but if she paid $260 to a childcare or family day care she would get a percent of it back in the end... somthing to think about also most family daycarers have back ups if they are sick as with childcare centres...HTH GL
