Hi i'm currently 7 weeks pregnant with my second and am considering a homebirth. my mum's not keen on the idea because my sons heart rate dropped last time i was in labour for a few minutes and she thinks it'll happened again. i tried explaining to her that because i was induced and what-not and i started to stress a little bit that's why. and this time i'm refusing anything like that because it was unecessary the first time. anyway i was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction on book's to read about homebirth or websites and the works. also where would i find a midwife and what are the costs and that for one. thanks heaps.

Good on you for exploring your options :yelclap:. Firstly, it's none of your mum's business where you choose to birth! Mum mother had similar hangups "you have big babies whay if they get stuck, blah, blah, blah". It's, your baby, your baby and completely your decision.

And secondly, yes, you are absolutely right, your bubs heart rate probably dropped due to the artificial hormones that were causing your uterus to contract harder and faster than it would naturally, squishing him and stressing him out.

In terms of finding a midwife in QLD I'm sure a QLDer will be along shortly to help, but you could just google independant midwife and Brisbane to start. Good luck and best wishes!

Mum2Lucas, its great that you are concidering a home birth:thumbsup:, i had some of the 'but what if....?' they will be right, just tell them its a vilid opion for educated women with healthy pregnacies, that usually helps.

Now the next issue is being in brissy.... what part of brissy are you in, because it is difficult at the moment, ring the middy Yolanda (www.homebirth.org.au (http://www.homebirth.org.au)) and ask her for some numbers, she is moving to NZ soon but she has organised two replacments, and they are your best bet. Also come along to the HMA support meting, they are great and you get some fantastic support from other mums and mums-to-be (and some middies to ask questions).

goodluck, if i was you i would call every number you can get your hands on, because it is difficult in brissy at the moment, but dont give-up, if this is something you really want you will find a way:)

yep more than likely your bubs heartrate dropped due to synthetic hormones...

its less likely to happen at home too, because you are in you comfort zone at home and your relaxed, where at a hospital you are not relaxed cos you arent in your comfort zone :)

best of luck :)

Hi and welcome to the homebirthing section!

Firstly, you might be able to locate an independent homebirthing middie in QLD through the Bubhub directory - click here (http://www.bubhub.com.au/servicesmidwives.php#qld).

Re: Books to read - Anything by Sarah Buckley is fantastic (Gentle Mothering, Gentle Birth is GREAT!), and I'm currently reading "HypnoBirthing - the Mongan Method" by Marie Mongan and it has a HEAP of really good info re: natural and homebirthing, why hospital intervention is generally (in normal healthy births) not good etc. I'm finding it a really good resource - not to mention that I"m going to be HAVING a hypnobirth, so it doubles as my text book for that.

Don't hesitate to ask lots of questions :)

Also you don't have continual monitoring at home like you do at hospy, it's perfectly normal for bubs heart rates to rise and fall.

Hope you get a midwife that will be able to attend.

Mickie - Are you talking about Yolande, is she moving to NZ? Is she your midwife or is Sonya?

Yep, Yvonne is moving, Yolande is staying put!! :)

I would recommend going along to the Brisbane HB support meetings, that is the best way to find mw's find also get to know other homebirthers, who can all provide great support if you need it along the way, and they are all an amazing source of knowledge and wisdom :)

Don't stress, you will find a mw.
