Mods, please move this if it's in the wrong place.

I made some gnocchi today and was wondering what sauce to put with it. Hubby is working late tonight, so I just want to make something simple that he can reheat when he gets home - plus it's 34 friggin' degrees so I don't want to be doing anything too elaborate!

I was thinking either a butter and sage sauce or a tomato basil sauce, but they seem pretty uninspired to me. Then I was going to do a side salad with stuff from the garden.

What do you think? Does anyone have any yummy, simple sauces for gnocchi??

Seriously, do the sage butter sauce. One with walnuts is the yummiest IMO...!

It's very simple and basic, but by god is it the nicest (well, not the nicest, but the nicest that I haven't eaten in a restaurant!).

Tomato sauces always "ruin" gnocchi IMO... I dunno why... but yeah. lol. This is my fave recipe for gnocchi: http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/16782/gnocchi+with+sage+butter

This is also absolutely divine... but cream fraiche can cost a bit for what it is (about $6 for the amount needed in this recipe). http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/3749/pesto+bacon+pine+nut+gnocchi

Recommend those both because I've made them myself and KNOW they're yummy!

How funny - I made gnocchi last night with a simple cream sauce

1 lge tin evaporated milk
200g shredded ham (I find bacon too salty)
1 med onion finely chopped
8 button mushrooms sliced
1tbsp garlic
2 tbsp butter (optional)
parsley
pepper

simple and tasty. saute the onions, garlic & mushrooms in the butter. chuck in the rest and let simmer. Leave it runny (may need to add more cream) then stir gnocchi through.

Yummy!! DD1 (22mo) loves it too!!

I ended up doing the sage butter sauce and it was delish!!

MJ - might have to try your recipe next time. I love pasta!!!

my one with DD who is 2 cant get enough of is just a simple mushroom sauce.

Last night I made spinach and potato gnocchi with it and there was nothing left on the plate!

I use swiss brown mushrooms as they have more tatse.
To that I add onion finely chopped and saute it in a small amount of oil.
I then add some organic chicken stock, maybe less the 1/3 of a cup, cook that out and add some light cream, at the last minute I throw in the gnocchi and serve it up to her.

Last night I also addedd chicken and like I said...all gone! Actually its the only thing she will eat at them mo!

But the sage butter one sounds yum too!

I love a basic pesto with gnocci. Do you have some basil, pine nuts and garlic??
