Just wondering what activities/day to day stuff mums are doing with their young ones... DS is 16mths old, and I am struggling to think of more creative ways to spend our days other than the usual play time, outside play, reading, etc. I have Mothers group and swimming as well, but would like to do more productive things with him on the remaining days...

Any ideas??

Ta! xx :)

hmmm... my boy is the same age. I'm looking for more ideas too. We just joined the aquarium so we can go there and look at fish every week if we want, but that probably doesn't help you! He's just started to get the idea about playgrounds, so I'm trying to take him to playgrounds more often.

He just has such a short attention span! I get exhausted trying to keep up with him.

Hi there,

I have a 16 month DD an a 3 yr old DS who are at home with me all the time. My DD isnt walking yet so I am just do stuff with the both of them, the things you mentioned - we go to a playgroup, we go swimming lessons, we paint, we read, she loves building with blocks with her brother and we do a bit of cooking also. I know this isnt much help but I think once my DD is walking, I hope to do more outdoor activites with them, trainrides, busrides ect..

I will be watching this thread to see what other ideas pop up:)

We listen out for the postie to go past each day then run out and watch him and get the mail - we are in a culdesac, so we see him for a little longer.

I filled a plastic box with playsand and let him dig in it. THough he hasn't quite got the idea yet.

He loves to go for walks in the pram, so when it is cool enough in the afternoons we try to go for walks. Or just let him run around in the backyard. He could do that for hours.

Thanks guys - glad it's not just me who struggles sometimes with the activities... It's hard sometimes, cos he's right at that age where if I try to do things like drawing/crafts etc with him, he tries to eat things instead of playing! I'm looking forward to being able to expand what we do but for now it's reassuring to know it's pretty normal at this stage...

Ta!

Water play always entertained my 2.
Just sit outside at a table on anywhere on a plastic mat or something with a tub or something full of water, give a few cups, balls that float, things that sink, other containers and just let them go nuts. I have never seen a toddler not enjoy this.
Afterwards you can use the left over water (if there is any) and water your plants.
