My little guy was diagnosed at 7 months and is highly allergic to dust mites!!!
There are some basic things that we do to help prevent him from having a severe reaction.
* He only has one stuffed toy (his small doll, which we freeze, this kills the D.Mites and wash every other day in hot water, then leave it in the sun to dry)
* His room is the sunniest in the house as sunlight kills dustmites, he also doesnt have heavy drapes in his room as they are a breeding ground for D.Mites.
*He has a dust mite proctector on his mattress
*we dust using a damp cloth and vacum when he is not in the house
* unfortunately we have carpet so it was really hard when he was little, he had to be covered all the time etc but now his walking I just make sure he doesnt lie on the carpet etc
Things that kill D.Mites:
Freezing something in the freezer
Washing in hot water
leaving things out in the sun
Things to avoid:
Cleaning (dusting vacuming etc) while your child is at home as this brings all the dust into the air where the child breathes it in and gets a reaction.
I also recently took my son to a natropath and have seen some great results but this is just my opinon.
Also a friend of mine is going through a program where you get injected with the allergen that your allergic too inorder to build your immuntiy to it, she has 20 injections over 20 weeks and its supposed to dramatically decrease your allergic reaction. I havent looked into it yet for my son as he isnt even 2 yet and im not sure they work with younger children....but it something to think about for the future:)
