I told Ruby that she could have a birthday party at home with all her school friends (which I am now regretting). She is having a Halloween Party.

But I have realised that I have no idea what to do!! Help!! All the other kids birthday parties we have been to have had a large activity to keep the kids amused. What on earth do I do with them?

You could just play party games but give it a halloween theme.

eg. Pin the eyes on the ghost

Pass the parcel - using scary paper and have little rubber spiders under a couple of the layers of paper.

Do a treasure hunt.

Have a dance competition using the rocky horror music.

Can't think of anything else right now, hope that helps ya.

Hi,

I had a really great party for my son last year at home and it was great.

We hired two girls from a place called parties kids remember (don't know if they are a national company or not),but they were great. They played games and entertained the kids for 1 hr and 20 min and the kids just loved them.

After that the kids ate,i just made stuff like fairy bread, sausage rolls, fruit platter, cupcaked etc and the kids all had a fruit box each. The kids loved it!!

Hi

Bobbing for apples is a traditional game to play at Haloween. Get a big bowl of water, float apples on the top. Kids have hands tied behind their back and have to pick as many apples as they can out with their mouth.

Broomstick races

Do you know anyone who face paints? They could come and do goulish faces for you.

Some sort of game with them dressed as ghosts....get some sheets and cut out eyes. Maybe you could do musical ghosts (variation on musical chairs). You could play the ghost busters theme tune:laughing:

Oh I'm right into this can I come???

I would probably look at traditional games like bobbing for apples. Although as an alternative I have seen the apples tied to the clothesline with string and you have to eat it without hands. A pinata is always good fun. You could always do a craft thingo where they make their own spider or something halloween to take home :detective:

~ Pinata for sure !

~ Donuts tied to string that they have to bite with no hands (easier to bite than apples)

~ Statues game

~ Pass the parcel

Ummm I am stumped....

Lots of yummo food obviously :D

Pass the parcel is the best game ever :D

Do you have a good backyard? Cuz a treasure hunt would be awesome, as well as keep them entertained for ages (as long as you hide things well enough!)

You could get them to build a scarecrow or skeleton, hide the items to make it and get them to treasure hunt them, when they find each bit they can build them. Can also do it in teams to see who does it first if you have enough kids.

Ghost hunting. Make little foam ghosts and tape lolllies and prizes on the back of them. hang them and hide them and get the kids to find them. Like a treasure hunt.

Guess the ghost. Get the kids to run around the house and then take one in the chaos and dress them as a ghost. The kids then have to figure out who it is through process of elimination.

Paper Mache pumpkins.

pin the nose on the pumpkin

I googled printables for halloween and got this site, it has stuff you can print out etc like colouring pages, halloween bingo etc

Hope thats helped some :)

You know what to do...follow my lead!

Eyeball/spoon race
Musical cauldrons (cooked spaghetti/red jelly) and the kids had to dive into the 'intestines and blood' and find the prizes
Downloaded 'scary' music - Munsters, Adams family, Thriller, Ghostbusters etc.
Feed them and let them just run around like crazy people!

Two weeks to the party. Someone has already told me I am "brave" doing my first ever party at home

Invites went out today, hopefully that is a decent amount of time, wasn't sure of the time frame that was supposed to happen in.

I've made it an hour and a half, just enough time for people to arrive, eat some food, play a few games, have cake then get out.

I am doing a cemetery birthday cake, big square sponge cake with green icing and biscuits stuck in with RIP on them.

I have a couple of games sorted out, hopefully won't be boring for them:

Pin the wart on the witch

Wrap the Mummy - 1 roll of toilet paper in pairs, wrap each other up like mummies

Pass the parcel - I have lots of halloween lollies to go in it and am going to the party supply store for rubber spiders and things

Fishing for apples - bobbing is not quite safe for this age group so I am getting some wood dowel with string and a magnet on the end, cutting out some cardboard apples and putting them in Ruby's old little swimming pool.

Make a Monster - cutting up a whole heap of cardboard body parts and they can make monsters

heh, wrap the mummy sounds awesome :D
You are brave, I'm too nervous about having a birthday party anywhere....! Too scared no one would show :o

Well yes, I am a bit worried about that :o The invites went out today and I have 2 confirmed so far. It can go two ways, a lot of fun or a huge flop. Plus normal people coming to my house with a few goth friends, two trannies and my decor. Must remember to take down offensive artwork!

my DD had a Halloween b'day party when she was in grade 1, I invited the WHOLE class (silly silly thing to do!!!) and if I didn't already learn my lesson she has had 3 parties at home all up! LOL

my only tips (from experience) would be

- make sure you have something the kids can do when they very first arrive, I always found the kids need a break the ice activity while waiting for everyone to arrive - some will always be late

- make sure you have EVERYTHING you need for each game set and and ready to grab (in a box/basket/bag etc) so there is no waiting for them to get the game going

- most party games don't use up as much time as you might think, always have a back up game (an easy one like 'musical statues' or something) ready to go just in case

- there is always at least 1 or 2 parents who 'hang around'. I always make sure I have my DH or mum or someone clued up to entertain parents so I can get on with looking after the kids stuff

have fun and remember to buy yourself a nice bottle of wine so you can have a glass after the party finishes - you'll need it

Thanks for your help everyone. The party was yesterday and I think it went ok, the kids seemed to enjoy themselves.

I had to change the food plans as it was very hot, so we just had fruit and lots of lollies.
