Yes, you can get spotting from ruptured CYSTS, where an egg would have been developing in your follicles...but that doesnt mean that the reason you are spotting is because of ruptured follies. I would say its more likely your hormones are trying to regulate after being on the depo shot and that can cause spotting. I would talk to your gyn about it...

Try googling "corpus luteum cyst" - does that sound like what the GP was talking about?

nope corpus luteum cyst doesnt sound anything like what he said :S .... his exact words where you are spotting you are not ovulating, the egg is re least and then it burst :S ... i dont kno think i might get a second opinion, i dont think that some one can just say that with out doing a test or even looking or something just drew me a picture and sent me on my way

During the course of a cycle, the follicles in your ovaries enlarge - more than just the one that an egg will be released from. Quite often, there will be eggs in those follicles, that either don't mature, or mature more slowly than the follicle that eventually releases the egg at ovulation (which is how women get pregnant naturally with non-identical twins).

I do not proclaim to be a medical professional - far from it...have just learnt lots about how my body works over the past few years after being involved with egg donation. What it sounds like to me, is that your GP is suggesting that these immature follicles are rupturing mid-cycle, causing the spotting. There aren't really any tests that he/she could have done with you today to see if this is the case. I suspect the only was to really find out would be to have a number of internal ultrasounds across the course of one of your monthly cycles, and see what the follicles were actually doing.

But - as with any medical issue - when in doubt, get a second opinion.
