Hi,

DD is now 4 months old and has been on Karicare AR for just over 3 weeks. It has been fantastic in regards to her reflux however she seems to be a bit constipated. She has always generally been a one poo a day kind of girl but they seem to be a lot smaller and firmer in the last week or so. She also seems to be struggling more in getting them out. They are not quite at the pebbly stage but as I said they are very very firm. Does this even sound like constipation? Should I be concerned? Is it ok to try some juice even though she has reflux? I am just concerned with the juice burning her throat because no doubt it will come back up again. Should I try pear or prune juice? If so how much and what dilution?

I would prefer not to have to change her formula as the poor little thing has been chopped and changed so much lately and is also on Losec suspension. I want to start her on solids soon but would like to get this little poo problem under control first.

Thank you!!! :hugs:

it sounds like it could be getting to the stage of constipation - but if she is showing no signs of struggling to do poos etc i wouldnt be overly worried...maybe just increase flluids (water) during the hoter weather?

If she does get REALLY constipated the best thing i found with DS was coloxyl drops. That is for when they get pretty bad though. As for pear vs prune juice. Id use pear juice because prune juice can be a bit hard on some little ones little stomachs...I just use to get the baby poppers of pear juice so it was diluted already if he was consitpated.

My DS would drink the prune juice when he was constipated, so my doctor suggested adding a bit of brown sugar to his bottle. Obviously you wouldn't want to make too much of a habit of this, but it did do the trick for us.
