View Full Version : stretch mark cream questions
Hi
Im new here
Got a question to ask... just came back from myer and got the information from someone in the dept store that we ( pregnant women ) are not allowed to use any essential oil products before our pregnancy reach 5 month old, cause it might endanger the baby. is that true?
and what is a good pregnancy cream to minimize stretch mark, ive been using palmer's? and when is the best time to start using the stretch mark cream?
thanks for the help :)

There are some essential oils that shouldn't be used by pregnant women full stop, there isn't a magic cut-off point and if there was it wouldn't be "5 months", it would be "the first trimester". Are you almost 5 months pregnant? Maybe the sales lady was trying to sell you something. Some essential oils can cause the uterus to contract. There's lists around the place of which ones aren't safe, I can't think of them off the top of my head but I found it easier to just steer clear of all that kind of thing.
Stretch marks - vitamin E cream is brilliant, palmers cocoa butter is apparently good but the thing about stretch marks is they are caused by your skin being stretched (hence the name LOL) too quickly and the skin cells rip apart basically - so vitamin E will help repair it. Also rose hip oil is great, although expensive. (ooh but I dunno if it's safe during pregnancy LOL)

Before 3 months, there are a few essential oils that should be avoided, and clary sage should be avoided until 37 weeks (according to my midwife anyway).
Palmer's is pretty good, I've been using a combination of palmer's and virgin coconut oil (just coz I love what it does for my skin normally.... and it smells so darn good :D) I've started to get stretch marks now, but at the moment, they're only tiny. 7 1/2 weeks to see if they get worse

I used palmers stretch mark cream from day one with my first DD and i got to 37.4 weeks with nothing, second time around i used nothing i got to 36 weeks and i had one then a million stretch marks on my tummy, by 38.4 weeks it looked like a brain, if i had known it worked i would have done it second time around to, it really does prevent them.

Palmer's cocoa butter Formula all preg n after.
That is wickered stuff! and use a milk wash or olive oil soap. it stops the itch as well. after a few mths the marks will fade with continued treatment. The formula goes a long way good value for money.
Vitamin E did nothing for me.
Great on sunburn too. if your finding you cant handle the smell or ti makes your skin tingle use the olive butter its nearly as good. But you will have to use more for sever itching and scaring.

Don't waste your money trying to prevent them. Nothing can.
You can however use vitamin E on them to help reduce how noticable they are. Ask your pharmacist for a cream with the most vitamin E in it.

I've also heard about avoiding some essential oils whilst pregnant, tho can't recall which ones. Probably best to google.
I used Bio Oil all throughout my pregnancy and didn't get one stretch mark :yelclap:. Whether it's a coincidence or not, who knows, but I'll definitely be using it again if and when number #2 comes along.

at 32weeks im feeling my skin doesnt have so much room to stretch any more - i'm scared!!! I am glad my bub is growing healthy and that I too am well. I DONT WANT STRETCHIES THOUGH!!! i remember all to well the horrid red scars from puberty that tore at my breasts and hips. I've been using palmers but have heard stretchies are genetic. My mother had them, my sister had them. My weight gain in this preg has been 1kg a week for the last 19 weeks and at 73kgs im just praying my body will rest up and stop with the crazy gain. I eat fairly well and walk a lot. but who knw's?
Around what timeframe in pregnancy do people generally get them? (is this a stupid question?)

I never had them throughout my preg as i was using coco butter, but the last month i ran out and though i wouldnt waste my money buying it again and one morining i woke up and they were everywhere! My hips, thighs, stomach, boobs, back! I regret not buying it, i still have them 3months after delivery and cant seem to stop them itching! i feel so ugly with the all over my body! i heard the only actual thing that can reduce them a lot is a prescription from the doctors called retinoid cream. Think ill have to go get some!

I've used bio oil and have no stretch marks so far (36wks). I started to get some on my hips where I hadn't been using the oil but since using it on this area as well they have started to fade.
I've actually just run out of bio oil though and have started using Trilogy Aromatic body treatment oil which was given to me and it also seems really good and smells divine. It has vitamin E too.

I used bio oil for the first 6 months, then cocoa butter for ages and got none, then at about 38 weeks a got some, I'd only been using sorbolene for a while because I ran out of cocoa butter and money was tight.
I've been using pure coconut oil which makes my skin feel nice, only problem is it's rock solid so a bit annoying. :p
Rosehip oil is ok to use, I'm going to get some soon, as is wheatgerm and I've seen lots of belly oils made of macadamia nut oil too.
I'm going to make my own soon, once the coconut oil runs out, just don't know what scent to put in it with all the drama over aromatherapy!:p

I mentioned in a previous post that I have stretchies from puberty, this is my first preg and I can feel my skin beginning to be stretched to its limit. (im only 32wks). I dont remember actually seeing my stretchies grow. I can remember them being red and eventually over time (a long time)fading to pale.
Do they just come up over nite all red and angry looking or will my skin give me warning before hand?

Mine came up in a little purplish bruised looking patch, then a couple of days later they started to look like stretchmarks.

well I had my bub at 37.5 weeks and got No Stretchies. I used palmers cocoa and palmers olive.
With a sister and mother who both got some pretty chronic stretchies i thought it would be inevitable. I also gained 22kgs all in the last 20 weeks so my weight gain was climbing high quickly.
Could it be these miracle creams not only provide a nice smell but that they actually work? Who knows but ahh I'm glad.
I think though if I were to have went to term or over I may not have been so lucky (but then again who knows?)
