Hi - just making some fleece pockets for bubs and was wondering how many layers of fleece for the outer layer to use. I have made one fleece pocket using one layer on the outside (and obviously one for the inside) and it seems to be ok it but hasn't undergone extensive testing (eg overnight).

I read recently about fleece pockets that use 2 layers of fleece on the outer layer so that you don't need a cover but this would seem a bit hot with 3 layers of fleece wrapped around DS's bum and bits.

How many layers of fleece do you use or do you have any bought fleece pockets you could check and give me some feedback.

Thank you :D

There are different types of fleece, so it really depends on the type of fleece.

You should only use microfleece (really thin fleece) on the lining or with a hidden layer of PUL if you want it for the outside.

Thicker fleece from say spotlight or somewhere like that will probably need 2 layers, but you can do 1 full layer, then another strip in the wet zone.

Then there is malden mills fleece, which is totally awesome stuff. If you are using windpro or 300 wt with DWR coating then you only need 1 layer on the outside, 200 wt needs an extra layer in the wet zone.

It's sort of a waste of time and money IMO using cheaper fleeces anyway because they pill and look shabby really fast. Windpro is the best stuff ever, see if you can get your hands on that, from the ween wuns, fairy fabrics etc.

Also you don't have to use all polyester fleece in a nappy. My favourite linings are the things like sherpa, bamboo velour, cotton velour, or fine bamboo terry.
Much friendlier for baby's skin
