Ok... for those who dont know I have a craft site and with all the nausea I have had it inspired me to make a morning sickness soap thats basically made with ginger..
Morning Sickness Soap (http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=1235)
It's very simple to make and you can buy the soap flakes in coles or woolworths..
and of course we know where to get ginger from..
it's not a cure all... but it really really has helped settle down my nausea, especially when getting dressed in the mornings.. .
I believe there are some resrictions to How much ginger u have (thats what I was told anyways) so use your own common sense I guess.. if u r eating it, drinking it and inhaling it.. its probally not best to bathe in it.. LOL:)
If anyone has any questions just let me know .....
You could always make a clarysage soap if you are overdue...
(clarysage is believed to induce labor) but clarysage is actually wonderful for Cramps and PMS when your NOT pregnant...

Maybe I was dreaming it but I thought it was best to avoid ginger when pregnant!

I googled it and this is what it came up with in regards to ginger, I know it is for ginger tea but I am sure that is for any type of ginger product....
Small amounts of fresh ginger are probably okay, but large amounts of ginger may contribute to contractions of the uterus, and this may be more pronounced in women who have had a miscarriage. Ginger seems to stimulate circulation in the pelvis and is sometimes used to bring on a menstrual period. One or two cups of ginger tea a day is probably fine, although for a woman who has suffered miscarriages I would recommend avoiding it altogether in the first trimester.
There have not been many scientific studies of the effects of herbs in pregnancy, so we really do not "know" what is safe and what is not. Much of the information on natural remedies and pregnancy is anecdotal, meaning it has been passed down by word of mouth and not derived from rigorous scientific studies. Many of the references I use for natural remedies list things that should not be used in pregnancy without giving a good explanation.
My feeling on herbs -- or anything else -- in pregnancy is to be extra careful. Never use an herb without first discussing it with your doctor. In general, if I find any source that suggests a particular herb should not be used by a pregnant woman, even if I cannot find a scientific study to back that up, I will not let my patient use it. If I can't find any information one way or the other, I suggest it be avoided.

I will try to differentiate for everyone who is worried here. Ginger in tea form (commercial variety) has almost no medicinal properties. It is so mild that it's effects are next to none. Ginger in food is generally no problem either. In fact Blackmores morning sickness formula has traces of ginger root in it.
The essential oil Ginger is much different, as are nearly all oils in comparison to their edible counterparts. It is wise to steer clear of all essential oils during pregnancy, especially so if you have a history of miscarriage. Essential oils are highly pure products and used directly can be quite harmful.
Unless you have been appling Ginger essential oil directly on your skin or deeply breathing in the vapours it is highly unlikely that ginger can cause pregnancy problems. In other words, eating ginger, drinking ginger tea or taking a supplement is probably totally harmless. Just avoid the essential oil.

thank goodness I can keep using the soap and taking the blackmores.. its the only thing saving me..
I have taken the optional oils off the soap to avoid confusion, just incase someone doesnt check with their dr first.
but the powdered ginger works well, cause thats all in have in my soap, because i didnt want to buy anymore essential oils.

Hey brokendove,
Sounds like you know what you are doing. I took Blackmores in the first three months also, to take the edge off the nausea. It sounds like a lovely soap-and what a good idea incorporating it into a soap for morning sickness.:)

I was with my doctor yesterday as my morning sickness was really getting to me. I told her I was trying ginger everything & taking Blackmores morning sickness tablets. She says ginger is fine but only works for some people she looked Blackmores tablets up on her computer & found that they have only about 25% evening primrose oil & apparently this is what help MS. So she gave me Maxolin & told me to take 1000MG of evening primose tablets a day & so far it's working I could actually eat hot food yesterday. I always though Even Primose was just for PMT. She says it's the same thing it's balancing out your hormones which help ease PMT & MS, as it's hormones that cause MS.
Sorry for ranting
Hopefully someone finds this useful. :)
